CM: ‘The last details’ – when Milan hope to finalise the Emerson deal

By Ben Dixon -

This summer, AC Milan have taken a keen interest in signing a new right-back, and they are hoping to complete the signing of Emerson Royal shortly, a report has suggested.

Before the mercato opened, there was a growing desire to strengthen the squad in defence, and with a central defender through the doors, there is now a focus on adding a right-back.

Whilst there are no glaring issues presented by Davide Calabria, there is a feeling among the management that a higher level of competition would strengthen the player, or provide a better player by replacing him.

The need for a new right-back has only increased in recent days, though, following Alessandro Florenzi’s injury, and whilst he has had successful surgery today, things do not look positive for his season.

Therefore, Milan must now add a new player, and Emerson Royal is the player in mind. Earlier in the mercato, a deal looked off the table, but in recent weeks, it has come back to life, and a report from Calciomercato.com suggests that a deal could be done as early as next week.

As Daniele Longo writes, everything is ‘defined down to the last details’, but the club are attempting to lower Tottenham Hotspur’s price – only the structuring of a deal remains to be finalised with the gap lessening.

In an ideal world, the Rossoneri are hoping to finalise a deal before the squad returns from their American tour, but this may not be possible if a financial agreement cannot be found.

  1. If Thiaw’s exit is in doubt and we are still signing off on this then I think we can assume Calabria is a goner.

    1. I Don’t think … we know how many injures we have in defence…. Tomori, Thiaw, Gabbia, Pavlovic are our central defenders and on RB we have now only Calabria and Kalulu…Kalulu has great potential, but after his last big injury, for me he looks scared in few moments… I don’t know if he is good enough for playing from the bench to Central defence, or to RB … and you can see Fonseca play every match with Davide, not with Kalulu… it’s mean something

        1. Ballo Toure is not relevant. Florenzi had a major likely career ending injury (at least for us). We definitely need a RB.

          1. He’s going to be out for an entire year and then his contract will expire. It’s possible he’ll be released early. He’s not going to be playing for Milan again.

        2. Terracciano and Alex J. Are sub for Theo and I don’t think Salad will be on RB any time soon …Maybe it is a good idea, But I don’t think Fonseca make such an experiment…
Florenzi is out for this seasson and I hope Ballo Toure will be sold.. and then tou have again just Davide and Piere on RB

    1. Worst players in PL usually get better in Serie A while the best players in Serie A mostly struggles in EPL. Tomori, RLC, Pulisic, are good example. While Lukaku, Pogba, etc – the bad examples.

I am optimistic that Royal will transform to his best in Italy, especially with Fonseca coaching him.

BTW, one of Calafiori or JZ will flop in England. This is not me wishing them bad, it’s just what it is

      1. Total nonsense. Vicario and Udogie are doing great at Tottenham. Lukaku is top 20 all time scorer in the premier league, how come he is the worst player in the league with this many goals despite him playing four seasons in seria a. In his first season with United, he was the second highest goal scorer after Harry Kane. It’s not his fault he played in struggling Man United and Chelsea teams. The same goes for Pogba. Let’s remember how Salah dominated the Premier League in his first season, even though he was not that dominant in Serie a. Every league has different characteristics and players have to be smart to see if the style of the league and the team fits them
