CM: Lazio join race for Feyenoord midfielder who is flattered by Milan links

AC Milan expressed an interest in signing Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord but Lazio have now entered the race, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com writes that Lazio are looking for another midfielder on the market after selling Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia for €40m and signing Daichi Kamada on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Marizio Sarri is waiting for a regista as a gift from president Claudio Lotito with a number of names having been linked from Fred and Guendouzi to Hjulmand and Ricci.

Lazio have held the first contacts with Feyenoord for Wieffer, who is under contract until June 2027 with the Dutch champions, who bought him last year from Excelsior for just €575k.

In just one season his market price shot up to €15m also thanks to the work of coach Arne Slot, who gave him confidence and helped him grow.

Milan also had their eyes on him. About a month ago Wieffer himself even commented on the rumours linking hom with the Rossoneri.

“Obviously I’m pleased to hear about the interest of big clubs like Milan, but I feel great at Feyenoord and I want to stay here for at least another year,” he said.

Now, Lazio have the chance to make Milan regret not going for him, unless Rade Krunic were to leave and the track were to quickly reopen.

      1. Like CDK. Everyone talked so good about him and he didn’t make any difference yet. I think Milan should focus more on looking for a forward, instead of midfielders

  1. Just saw that Fenerbahce have bid £15m (gbp) for Fred. Say what you want about Krunic but he’s better than Fred (I’m better than Fred). Looks like Krunic ‘completes’ our midfield then.

    1. Rade would struggle to preform in the championship let alone the premier league, fenerbahçe signed a player who is light years better than krunic.
