The Rafael Leao dilemma continues. His contract with AC Milan will expire in 2024 and the parties are not close to an agreement as things stand, while several big European clubs are monitoring the situation with great interest.
Leao is a key player for the Rossoneri and his stocks really skyrocketed after the Scudetto season, in which he was unstoppable towards the end. He has started this season well and the interest has only gotten stronger, if anything.
According to Calciomercato.com, the renewal is well and truly a dilemma for Milan as the total cost of it would be €60-65m. That figure is based on the demands of Leao, as well as the €15m that must be paid to Sporting Lisbon.
The World Cup could increase the price tag of the player, as well as the salary demands, and Milan thus have to refer to the €150m clause. It will be active next summer and selling him at that price wouldn’t be a disaster. However, it’s unclear whether clubs will be willing to pay that or not for a player with one year left on his contract.
Sell him to city for 100m plus Julian Alvarez, he solves our striker problem, then I’d go get Noah Lang and Zaniolo for the wings. We’d still have money left to strengthen elsewhere

Maybe Leao wants to commit, he just wants what he is worth to do so, its Milan that needs to commit imo. We were happy to pay Zlatan 7m so I dont see why we cant give 6.5 – 7m to a player we TURNED DOWN over 100m for. Its time for Redbird to show their hand, either we are a selling club or we want to build something, If we value the player in that price bracket we should be paying wages of 6-7m minimum.
If we want to be honest, Leao is a player with huge potential but ain’t worth 7mill per season currently.
26 goal contributions in 42 games last season, 9 goal contributions in 8 games this season, he is 1 of 3 players in europe top 5 leagues to have 10 goals and 10 assists in this calander year, he is very much worth 7m a season imo, plenty of players getting paid that much and doing a lot less for their clubs.
Yep I’d agree with you here. But Leao needs to make his position clear, he either commits and that means for a good few seasons to this Milan project not just season by season

As Iwan said, the problem appears to be the fine that needs to be paid to Sporting. I would argue that it is for the best in the long run if we refused to pay that instead of Leao himself and Lille. Paying that sum would set a really ugly precedent where players can pressure the club to cover for their personal mistakes.
