CM: Maignan’s agents set to meet Furlani – the latest on his renewal

AC Milan are working to try and secure the renewal of Mike Maignan, with a meeting expected to happen later this month.

Calciomercato.com writes that Maignan is among the best five goalkeepers in the world in terms of his technical quality, leadership and the continuity of his performance level, which is something Milan are aware of.

Negotiations to renew Maignan’s contract – currently set to expire in 2026 – began about ten days ago. The first talks between the parties were over the telephone and served to gather impressions and ideas on how to plan the future.

Within 15-20 days Maignan’s agents will arrive in Milan for a first summit with Rossoneri CEO Giorgio Furlani and it is from there that we will learn more about where things stand.

The report acknowledges that there have been links with Chelsea and PSG in the media, something that shows other teams are aware of Maignan’s qualities, and this has only intensified the Rossoneri’s pursuit of an agreement.

  1. I would love for us to renew Maignan, he is one of the best goalies in the world, but if his demands are going to be outrageous then we should sell him ASAP, because he doesn’t really deserve the right to ask for an outrageous package while being out for 40% of matches every season.

  2. Heresy, but I’d be inclined to cash in on him and Leao in the summer. Both have been superb, but £200m can buy some serious squad quality. Neither is irreplaceable.

    1. I’m not sure we need that much cash for new players at the moment. We just need to find a good striker, maybe a defensive midfielder and depth for the fullbacks. We’re kind of set everywhere else. Now need to sell our two best players for that. Leao just renewed so we have him under control for a few years yet. Thus, if anything, it could be Mike, but it will depend on his demands, etc. Selling Leao next summer would call into question our ambitions.

      1. I agree with your analysis but to be specific, a starting RB and a depth (3rd or 4th choice) CB might be top priority for us.

I’d say Musah has the makings of an excellent Defensive mid with Adli being the alternative as regista. Also, Isma back and we’re set at box to box.

With Okafor’s production in the last 2 games, I’m very intrigued. So much that Promoting Traore as Rafa’s backup and moving Okafor to be Girouds alternative/competition (and playing him or pulisic at LW when it’s dire) seems feasible.

I’d also look at Promoting a pure Defensive mid from the youth group as opposed to splashing cash. Abate’s boys are definitely worth a 2nd look with their blistering form…

    2. You want to change your squad every season ?? And who will buy mike & leao for total 200m euro ? Leao maybe 100m euro but mike with his injury prone only worth 60-70m euro . Better keep this squad unless the player asking to leave or unhappy . ACM can still get money from sell all their loan player like CDK,Saladmaker,Origi,Ballotoure,Junior messias and colombo . ACM can use that money from selling un used player + basic budget to buy striker or replacement for player that unhappy on squad

  3. As I already said from the window, I actually prefer if Maignan is the one to leave, rather than Tonali, to make room for money and more purchases (Chelsea were rumored to want him for 60m). He is quality and one of the best keeper we ever have, but he injured often and his performance dipped a bit.

Also as shown by Sportiello, a decent GK will do the job for us as long as the team playing a good Defend, we don’t need absolute the best GK. With 60m, half can buy us decent GK for replacement (like Livakovic/Vicario/Raya in previous window) and the rest can add to the money for new main striker.

Maybe someone Italian like Carnesecchi/Elia if we go for the future, or get Provedel/Meret.

But of course I’ll be happy if Maignan stay with us till his mid 30. But hopefully uis injury record improved.

  4. Sell him and invest in Scalvini and Ricci,
We have sportiello so no problem.
Like another comment here, would much prefer to have sold Maignan and keep Tonali, but too late now.

  5. Sell cdk, messias, origi, toure, saele, caldara, colombo, pellegrino, gabbia, kjaer, maldini.. it”s worth more than 130 m? Then buy provedel, scalvini and sesko. Promote zeroli, bozzolan, simic and nava

  6. This falls right into Maldini Heir’s lap. Just came from a transfer window and were on to the next in a couple weeks already. And then he gets bashed for making the same point that’s actually true
