CM: Maignan, Theo and Reijnders return – the renewal situation for each star

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders each returned to Milanello over the weekend and they are looking ahead to what will hopefully be another high-level season with AC Milan.

After being semi-finalists at the 2024 European Championship, Calciomercato.com writes how the trio have resumed training following a vacation and they are waiting to meet the new head coach Paulo Fonseca when the squad return from the USA.

There is also the issue of renewals to tackle, starting with Maignan who has a contract expiring in 2026. The goalkeeper has been linked to numerous top clubs including some in the Premier League plus PSG and Bayern Munich.

At the end of July CEO Giorgio Furlani also expressed his opinion: “As a fan I can tell you [addressing the interviewer] that you don’t have to worry about Maignan and Theo.” A new offer will be made by the management, which will be evaluated and responded to, but there is optimism.

Meanwhile, Theo worried the Rossoneri fans during the European Championship, responding to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s words by stating: “We’ll see later whether I’ll stay or not.” However, the full-back desire is to renew and continue his adventure with the Rossoneri, to try and win more silverware.

Reijnders has a different situation to Maignan and Theo Hernandez given he only signed a long-term deal last summer. Thus, he is only about repeating, and if possible improving, the good shown done in his first season.

  1. Calling Reijnders a ‘star’ is a stretch since he was a central part of the midfield sieve last season.

He needs a big season, and he needs to do more than look good on the ball and take a few too many touches.

I’m still not sure what his strengths are.

He’s definitely not a DM or a tackler.

    Is he a passer?

Is he a midfield goal scorer?

    Is he a dribbler?

People criticise RLC but he has clear strengths and he actually delivered goals.

What exactly did Reijnders deliver for Milan?

        1. He can pass he can assist he is ball carrier if he get good DM next to him he will do wonders you can go check SERIE A stats even in his first year

          1. Why would I change my name?

I want Milan players to do well so I’d be delighted.

Now if he doesn’t achieve your possibly unrealistic expectations please don’t eat all nasty. He’s still one of our players.

      1. Says who? U didn’t answer d questions raised? What is reinjder’s strength?
He was central to Pioli’s kick n follow football and headless running around, and dat doesn’t make him a star….
He is not a good passer, DM, dribbler… Ok he can run

        1. That’s why I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I can see him being good a possibly make runs into the box but RLC better at that?

          RLC certainly delivered goals.

It’ll be interesting to see how Reijnders goes this season but if he doesn’t produce we might need to look to sell him next summer.

          1. When reijnders scored 10 goals and assist another 15 goals this season don’t run away or change your names because he will play with upgraded midfielders and couch specially if we sign fofana or another good DM

      2. LMAO 😂 if Deers is our best mid, we’re in big big trouble buddy. Ok he’s a good passer I’ll give u that much. An ok dribbler. Could carry yes (72nd percentile ) Otherwise…..he’s poor defensively, one of the poorest in the whole of Europe actually, very poor aerially as evidenced by games with us and the Netherlands, easily pressed out of the ball / dispossessed easily (bottom 20 percentile), miscontrols the ball (50th percentile) in a place on the field where u need certainty, poor ball recovery (bottom 4 percent). But yes he can pass /s
He’s very very overhyped on this site and by alot of commenters. He should be in his prime now and I can only hope he improves by miles the upcoming season

  2. i believe with an attacking minded coach possibly fonseca Reindjers can be the next seria a Snejder. i keep seeing some similarities but the boy needs to work on his shot.
