CM: Maldini awaits go-ahead as Botman still prioritises Milan over Newcastle

Sven Botman is expected to leave Lille this summer and AC Milan have been working on his arrival for several months now. And they are still in pole position despite the new attempt of Newcastle.

As the captain Alessio Romagnoli is expected to leave on a free transfer, Milan need a new centre-back and Botman is the perfect replacement. Being left-footed and young, he fits the Rossoneri’s project perfectly.

Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com reports that Milan are working hard on the signing, in talks with Lille on the basis of €30m plus bonuses. Paolo Maldini has already reached an agreement with the player, offering €3m plus bonuses per year.

Recently, Newcastle tabled an offer that is superior to Milan’s and the English side are waiting for signals from Lille. Having said that, per the report, Botman is still set on joining Milan and the new offer of Newcastle hasn’t changed his mind.

The feeling is that Maldini just needs the go-ahead from RedBird Capital, who are about to close the takeover of Milan from Elliott Management.
