CM: Milan admirers of Monza star Augusto but high asking price is set

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are big admirers of Monza defender Carlos Augusto but at the moment they have little chance of signing him this summer, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com recall how Augusto scored against Spezia last night to move on to 6 league goals and 5 assists this season, confirming himself as the second-most prolific defender in Europe behind only Bayer Leverkusen’s Frimpong (8 goals and 6 assists).

Monza paid €4m to sign him from Corinthians’ in September 2020 and his value is now five times that amount. CEO Adriano Galliani is intensifying contacts with his entourage to quickly reach an agreement and extend his contract, currently expiring in 2024.

Virtually all the big clubs in Italy are interested. Juventus have begun talks, Inter have followed him on several occasions, while Milan are admirers but are off by the player’s price tag given he would be a deputy to Theo Hernandez.

Several declarations of interest have also arrived from abroad but for Monza, barring truly big offers of more than €20m, Carlos Augusto is not for sale.
