Gustav Isaksen

CM: Milan ahead of Juventus in Isaksen race – why he could be ideal for Pioli

Gustav Isaksen’s name has emerged as a potential candidate for the right wing role that AC Milan are looking to strengthen, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com recall how head coach Stefano Pioli has asked for a winger who has speed and the ability to beat his man in one on one situations during his press conference on the first day of preseason.

Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada have the profile they should be looking for, and what Pioli has essentially asked for is a player like Rafael Leao on the opposite flank to give some balance to the attacking department.

Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal remains the primary target, but the LaLiga side want €30m for him while he would take the final non-EU spot left in the squad, and thus the plan B comes from Denmark: Gustav Tang Isaksen.

He has been followed for almost a year by the scouting department and he netted 22 goals across all competitions last season, adding nine assists to make 31 goal contributions in 45 games.

Isaksen is left-footed but loves playing on the right wing because then he has the chance to cut inside and unleash his deadly shot, something which has drawn comparisons with Michael Laudrup in his home country, also considering his ability with his weak foot.

He scored twice against Lazio in the Europa League and was top scorer in the Superligaen with 18 goals as FC Midtjylland won the title. The 22-year-old prefers a 4-3-3 system and has also played as a false nine too.

He averages 0.82 goals and assists per game, with Leao at 0.85. Isaksen totalled 132 dribbles (5.04 per game) last season, of which 51 were successful (1.95 per game).

However, Milan might have to move fast if they are to sign the Dane because Juventus have Isaksen in their sights too after the appointment of Cristiano Giuntoli as director.

  1. They should have given up on Chukwueze as they obviously won’t reduce the price and Milan shouldn’t spend half of the transfer window waiting for someone. Sign this guy Isaksen if the scouts say he is a fit and he wants to join. I would still get Kamada as we will need more players to cover for the new injury prone guys that came in this window.

    1. Isaksen fits better against small Seria A teams who close up from the start then Chukwueze. Chukwueze needs space to run…. Plus Isaksen is younger. I made a longer comment but for some reason it wont appear.

      1. Yeah, the site is a bit like it is 20 years old, sometimes the comment won’t post if you don’t try a few times. Well, I hope he won’t be another Hauge, I mean highlights look good. But if you look at highlights Saelemaekers is like Vinicius Jr., so that means nothing.

        1. Yes that’s the biggest risk with Isaksen, that he is coming from a small league. Otherwise on paper he looks good and even better than Chukwueze. If teams like Liverpool, Totenham and now Juve are after him, i say it is worth the risk. He might be the next Kvarackelia as well, you can never be sure.

    2. “we will need more players to cover for the new injury prone guys that came in this window” 😂😂😂😂lol
When I see us getting RLC and Puli I’m thinking in the optimistic way as possible but then reality of Milan’s pitches takes over. I can’t think of a player that hasn’t gotten injured in our starting XI from these pitches (or training regiment I suppose) . Even Thiaw got injured too last season…as soon as he arrived lol 🤦‍♂️

      1. What can you be optimistic about Pulisic? I mean I want him to be great but chances are really really low. When Chelsea bought him he was described like this. ” If there’s one knock on Pulisic, it’s that he has been injury-prone of late, with soft tissue injuries causing him to be sidelined on five occasions in the 2018-19 season.”

That keeps repeating every season and people believe he will magically stop being an injury magnet at Milan.

He has continued that and it won’t change at Milan.

        1. 🤦‍♂️Oh boy..well I guess I liked him in Dortmund 16/17..beast squad..that’s what I think of. Let’s hope.he stays fit but…well….ya know

      2. It is not strange anymore player injury after coming to AC Milan . Junior injury and skip pre season also absence in 10-15 first match in his first season with ACM, origi injured from liverpool but yet ACM still sign him . Florenzi ? I already forget when was last time his action. Conti & Caldara also injured in their first season coming to ACM . ACM need to rebuild again MilanLab

        1. Has to be the pitches no? Or the lab or training methods? I think pitches because it’s been occurring since before Pioli.

  2. If ACM want to play 433 this isaksen are low cost but can useful for pioli tactic . Signing isaksen and skip samuel chukwu will also make AC Milan can focus budget for 2 DMF like reijnders & yunus musah

    1. Yep. Get the Dane now and focus on the midfield & striker already! Waiting for Chewbacca only means losing out on other targets.

  3. This kid seems to have bigger potential and upside and the sort of player a Brentford or Atalanta would sign and turn into a star. Fingers crossed.

  4. You either take a chance or pay the price on somethig you are still not sure if may work… what woul do if this was your money? Brentford has pretty much build a team on Danish players and they are doing just fine in EPL

  5. Btw PSG got Kang in Lee for only 22mil. That guy dribles like Messi. To bad that the Milan scouts didn’t notice him while wasting time with overprized Chukwueze.

  6. You’re the same people that would still come back here to rant that we are an average team, Let’s keep buying mediocre, you’ll cry that tolani was sold at 70m, and chukwueze is too cheap @35 😂, let’s keep encouraging ourselves to buying cheap young players
What is he difference between this guy and our salad guy

  7. Let’s be honest, if Isaksen cost as much as Chukwueze we wouldn’t be after him. I don’t know if he’s good or bad, admittedly I’m sure like most on this forum, I have not seen him play consistently to form an opinion unless your an avid watcher of the Danish league. We are after him because he is a cheaper alternative to Chukwueze. That is a fact. That’s fine and he may turn out to be the next Krava or the next Hague or Salesmakers. Who knows. Issue is Chukwueze Is supposedly Pioli’s dream target by all reports. Yet we are once again settling for the cheaper option from a much weaker league with little experience. Doesn’t inspire much confidence. Work your “development” magic Mr Pioli
