CM: Milan battling Man Utd, Roma for midfielder with €120m clause – the three obstacles

AC Milan are battling Manchester United and Roma for the signature of Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, a report claims.

Portuguese agent Bruno Carvalho Santos arrived at Casa Milan on Wednesday afternoon for a market meeting with the Rossoneri hierarchy, and journalist Gianluigi Longari claimed that Milan have enquired about signing Florentino Luis.

The 20-year-old has made 11 competitive appearances for the Benfica first team and is widely reported to have a hefty release clause.

According to an update from Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo, Milan are indeed keen on signing the youngster and are formulating an offer of an 18-month loan with option to buy.

However, they face a number of obstacles. Firstly, the player has a €120m release clause which makes negotiating a fee difficult. In addition to that, the report mentions interest from both Manchester United and Serie A rivals Roma.

Finally, the player himself would rather stay at Benfica and continue his development, though it has been suggested that the arrival of Julian Weigl could hinder that.
