CM: Milan’s management considering Scuffet against ‘internal solution’ – the details

By Ben Dixon -

After suffering a hand injury, Marco Sportiello will be out of action for some time. As a result, AC Milan are rethinking their mercato actions, and there is an internal debate occurring.

There is never a good time for injuries to occur, but for them to occur during the mercato is certainly preferred, as it allows clubs a chance to invest in a replacement when needed, and this could be something Milan take advantage of.

In the hotel before the game against Manchester City, Sportiello suffered a serious injury which will leave him sidelined for several months, leaving the club with only one first-team goalkeeper at the present moment – Mike Maignan.

Now, the question is about what must be done for the club to cope without another senior goalkeeper. As has been reported in the past few days, Simone Scuffet is being considered for the role after a fantastic season.

According to Calciomercato.com, he has reached a ‘maturity and technical completeness’ which is why he is being considered by the management, and he would be available on loan with the option to buy should the Rossoneri choose to.

However, Cagliari are requesting €500k for a loan deal to happen, which the management is contesting. It is the price which is leading them to debate about the future, and Giogio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are evaluating an ‘internal solution’, which would mean giving a young goalkeeper an opportunity.

Reports after the game against the Citizens suggested that Torriani could be given a chance among the first team, and perhaps he may be. However, it seems that Scuffet is the primary option at the moment.

  1. So is 500K considered to be too much for a loan, now? I don’t get it.

Torriani is good but he is super young; it indeed may be more prudent to have a senior goalkeeper as Maignan’s backup, especially because unfortunately, we know that Mike is injury-prone.

    1. Donnaruna was very young when he had the opportunity, Milan can as well give Torriani this opportunity to make him feel part of the main team, he as the biggest thing which is confident…let jist believe in him even though we have the best goal keeper in our post and there is no good defender their is nothing he would do so Torriani is good to go.

      1. Yeah that could be a solution but when Dollarumma got the chance,AC Milan were languishing in the middle of the table trying to find its way back to the top and the case study here made a lot of horrendous mistakes assuming the situation was different as this one the management might not be forgiven quickly as the fans might accuse them of incapable of swift and error free decisions.

At the moment AC Milan is back at the top in Italy but in Europe the club is still lagging and we all know how injury prone Maignan can be and everything could go wrong if he goes down and becomes sidelined after the summer mercato, there will be too much pressure on the young lad like the burden of world relatively resting on Torriani’s shoulders.

I love the fact that the teenager had such trajectory on growth level and since AC Milan has a future generation team the management should consider the temporary solution of hiring Scuffet and mandate Bonnera to make Torriani the Futuro goalkeeper and he should synchronically be the first team third choice goalkeeper in order to ease his growth and not dump him in the middle of the sea, and am quite sure with what have seen him displayed during this preseason he has the mental capacity to hold his own.

    2. He is 19 and we have 3 more 19-20yo in the futuro. One could and should be bumped to 1st team for 3rd gk.

Again, what’s the point in buying all those youngsters if we won’t use them?

      1. @jerry thanks for clearing it up for me. I think the chandelier hit him instead and zlatan was holding it. That is the craziest injury i heard about, dude needed an operation. Well anyway our young goal keeper should play all the time in serie c not sit on the bench as a 3rd keeper in serie a.

  2. What’s the worst thing that could happen, Torriani let’s in a few at the near post?

Can make a mistake unless you’re on 2m a year or more.

  3. Give our young gk a chance. I know maignan is injury prone but we’re talking about a back up goalie here. I expect maignan to play at least 10 consecutive games

  4. I am not saying I agree with the idea for loaning Scuffet, because I think our young GKs should be enough to cover as 3rd.
But, the news mentioning 500k is what makes the management step back is what really annoys me. They keep bragging about positive financial book, but step back for a “mere” 500k (we are talking aboit top Serie A here, not our salary as normal workers) for a target they think it is needed (again, THEY think it is needed).
Are we now a club in B tier league? How can they be really that cheap? Now, if the news is true, it is self explanatory why it takes sooooo long for a deal for a position we urgently need, DM.

  5. Diego Lopez is also injury prone before Gigio steped in. Just maximize this pre season for Torriani and give Mike some minutes to regain match fitness. Mike was on Euro so he probably still fit and need a little adjustment

  6. I think Milan use young player n give them minutes playing, it can be alternative is Maignan get injure or leave cause out of contract. N also it for another position not just goal keeper.
