CM: Milan management convinced by Lille star and will begin negotiations

By Oliver Fisher -

Despite Noah Okafor’s first goal in his first start on Wednesday against Cagliari, the AC Milan management are already thinking of a big investment on a striker.

It has been labelled by some sections of the media as Milan’s biggest shortfall of the summer window. There were negotiations over deals for Mehdi Taremi, Patson Daka and Rafa Mir close to the deadline, but ultimately Luka Jovic arrived on a free.

Jovic is a big gamble and he is yet to start a game, while Okafor is seen as more of a deputy to Rafael Leao who can play as a false nine type striker when asked to, meaning there is still a gap in the squad when it comes to a striker for the future.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Jonathan David of Lille is one of the profiles that garners the greatest interest at Milan, as well as the consensus that he is a very interesting profile.

The Rossoneri seem convinced by him and they are ready to open negotiations with Lille to secure the services of the Canadian international ahead of the competition.

      1. That’s not the point of comparison.

Leao was 19. He’s 6 months older than David.

How many goals would he have scored in France last season? He wouldn’t have taken penalties either.

The Football Daily podcast on YouTube did a recent episode on strikers in Europe. The segment on David is interesting. None of his numbers really stack up.

        He’s a 15m prospect with a very good manager.

    1. The guy will be in his final year of his contract by the next summer. So negotiating on a lower fee is possible. To go from 50 to 25-30 Million is possible. I mean Mike cost the team 15 Million even though he was an integral part of Lille.

      1. I think it will not go that direction. Milan have very good connections with Lille, who also paid for Lao contract termination. So Milan will pay fair price to Lille, but maybe not 60million or more…
I think in range 40 million for up to 50.

  1. i think the club should go for a better player like sesko.

yes he won’t be cheap, but strikers are expensive either way so might as well go for the quality player.

  2. I’m still not convinced by this player. Not necessarily because of any statistics, but because of his physique. Given our constant problems breaking down a low block under Pioli, I think we need a tall physical type able to win aerial duels in either direct chances on goal or setting up others. Someone like Sesko, although now that he has gone to Leipzig it might be too late.

  3. I have a bad feeling this is more for marketing in Canada than everything on the pitch. A “how do we attract a Canadian crowd while possibly getting a few goal as well?”
