CM: Milan facing a problem regarding Ibrahimovic – he earns a lot and plays little

AC Milan have found themselves with a potential problem linked to the condition of Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the striker continues to battle injuries.

It seemed as though Ibrahimovic was nailed on to start against Liverpool where he would have been very useful – if not decisive – because of his experience, his leadership and what he offers from a skill set point of view. The Swede did not even depart for Merseyside though, blocked by new problems in his tendon.

Calciomercato.com writes that there is still no certainty that he will be able to return in Turin on Sunday against Juventus, the same ground where – late last season – the 39-year-old injured his knee which resulted in surgery.

Last season Ibrahimovic only played half of the league games, while this year he has not yet started any of the four official games. The report adds that it is legitimate to ask why the management that did not want to raise their offers to Donnarumma and Calhanoglu but guaranteed Ibra his €7m net salary.

It is an error that risks penalising Milan in many matches, because Giroud – who will turn 35 at the end of the month – will not be able to play all the time. A more ready third striker was perhaps needed given Pietro Pellegri has not played an official match since February and in fact has not been included in the UEFA squad list, plus clinging to Rebic’s tactical flexibility is not enough.
