CM: Milan fall behind in race for playmaker as Atalanta close in on €18-20m deal

Atalanta are getting closer and closer to securing the signing of Lokomotiv Moscow playmaker Aleksey Miranchuk, a report claims.

The Rossoneri have been repeatedly linked with a move for Miranchuk, and Calciomercato.com reported earlier on Sunday how Paolo Maldini and especially Ricky Massara are bewitched by the player, having expressed their interest in the past.

Furthermore, they added how Miranchuk himself is apparently intrigued by the Rossoneri’s project and would like a move to Serie A, with contacts having re-started at the end of July between Milan and the midfielder.

According to the latest from Calciomercato though, it seems like Atalanta are clear favourites to win the race. The 25-year-old is very attracted by the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season under Gasperini’s orders.

La Dea are closing in on finding an agreement with Lokomotiv now, and while the demand of the Russian club is currently €20million, a deal can be closed with €18m plus bonuses.

The report adds how Milan sporting director Frederic Massara has not given up, but for the moment the demands for a player whose deal expires in less than a year are deemed too much.

The idea of including Diego Laxalt in the negotiation was considered, but there are difficulties related to his salary, so for now Milan remain behind their Lombardy neighbours.
