CM: Milan Futuro struggling to take off – the strategy in view of January

The Milan Futuro project has encountered some of the early growing pains that were perhaps expected, but the management intend to act to ensure they do not become something more serious.

Calciomercato.com write how the start to the season has given everyone connected to the Futuro some food for thought, beceause there is no sugar-coating the facts: Daniele Bonera’s side are second-bottom of their Serie C group and have the worst attack in their division, with just one win.

The project was created with the intention of developing first team-ready players rather than prioritising results, and from this standpoint the performances from the likes of Mattia Sandri, Alex Jimenez and Demirel Hodzic – all permanent summer signings – have been positive.

However, the list of difficulties is longer. The Rossoneri are paying for a lack of size and a lack of experience, so the January mercato could become an opportunity to exploit to try to give more strength to Bonera’s team.

Jovan Kirovski, Antonio D’Ottavio and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the three men behind the planning for the Futuro – have great faith in the squad and there are not many operations planned, both incoming and outgoing, in the winter window.

The plan of the management is clear: be ready to seize opportunities to sign young talents because the vision is for the Futuro to become a reservoir of talent where some graduate to the senior side. More players like Silvano Vos could help provide what is missing, while there could be exits too for those not being used.

At present, the directors do not plan to sign another striker because they are well covered in that area. Francesco Camarda is growing game after game, while Nicolo Turco has quality and only needs to find optimal physical condition and Samuele Longo can provide some leadership given he is 32.

    1. Gattuso? What are you smoking man. Sigh. Yes we need to sack Bonera. I don’t get why he was hired instead of Abate who would have been more suited to coach this team.

Milan need a good youth coach for their project and Gattuso is not a good coach. I would get Van Bommel who in my opinion would take over from Fonseca if needed.

Van Bommel lead the PSV U19s to the 2017–2018 league title. He should be in charge of Milan Futuro and he should be Fonseca successor since it is obvious that we will not get a big name coach.

Let van Bommel build this youth team like Capello did before he took over from Sacchi. Capello was instrumental in Maldini and Albertini development as a youth coach.

Van Bommel would do the same at Milan.
