CM: Milan happy to have swapped Caldara for Kjaer – the latest on the future of the Italian

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Atalanta will face off against each other at San Siro tonight, and it seems the two clubs are always somehow linked.

As Calciomercato.com reports, there was the battle for the Champions League place that went down to the final minute in 2018-19, there was the historic 5-0 at the Gewiss Stadium last season, and there are the market operations like Kessie, Kjaer, Conti and Caldara.

Back in January last year, Milan began to look for an alternative to Musacchio and they allowed Caldara to return to La Dea, who had joined Milan in the Higuain operation. Caldara made just two appearances for Milan due to physical problems: muscle injuries, tearing of the Achilles tendon, rupture of the cruciate and other delays.

Milan ended up getting Kjaer on loan from Sevilla, a player who had struggled for playing time at Atalanta, and now he has become a dependable part of a resurgent team.

For Caldara, last season’s stat sheet shows 15 games as a starter, but the current one only 54 minutes played in six months. A new problem in the patellar tendon and the intense competition has led to a situation that also affects his future.

The Italian, in fact, on an 18-month loan with an option to buy set at €15million. In June, the Bergamo side will have to choose what to do. The intention remains to keep him, but the decision is postponed to April, when the physical condition of the player will also be clearer.
