CM: Milan identify alternative January target with Bournemouth’s Kelly unavailable

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have identified another defensive target that they will attempt to sign if a deal for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly cannot be done in January, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are looking closely at Genoa-owned defender Alessandro Marcandalli, who is currently on loan in Serie B.

The 2002-born defender is performing very well for Reggiana, who are coached by former Milan defender Alessandro Nesta.

The move would be slightly surprising in the sense that Milan want a player who can certainly make an immediate impact, given the injuries to Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino.

It may be the case that were the Italian-Nigerian to join in January, he would not be the only central defender to arrive.

Kelly is the favoured player but Bournemouth are very unlikely to sanction a sale in January, preferring to keep him until the end of the season.

  1. Lol another low cost deal that I really doubt he’s good. You should have kept maldini if you want another kalulu because as we all see you guys can’t find suitable players for the team

  2. These solutions being proposed are buying more new toys for the sake of it, not calculated solutions for the problems that the squad has, and with a view to how the squad should be allowed to evolve.

Marcandelli is not going to play this season. He may be a player for 24/25. While I am not against signing young players with a view to developing them over time his age and level experiences puts him in direct competition with with the likes of Simic, Bartesaghi, Bakoune and even Nsiala. I don’t really see the point of singing a squad player of this age.

I’d much rather loan another Kjear or Florenzi level guy. There must be someone who’s not getting a game and who would relish the opportunity, someone with some experience to hold everything together. We can then target a defender who can actually make a difference.

The defender who can actually make a difference is so obviously Scalvini that I get anxiety (a feeling I almost never experience) thinking that the ‘brains trust’ running the club isn’t spending half of its energy working out how to ensure the signing of this kid.

Yes he’s not 20 yet but he’s basically the second coming of Paolo Maldini. Mentally, he’s a decade beyond his years and he’s a physical freak (how else can a 194-196cm 19 year old be this good?). He’d be the centre piece of the Milan defence for the next 12 to 15 years.

Hopefully CDK impresses Gasperini enough that Atalanta exercises that option and we can use that to offset the price of Scalvini. I do not give a ‘flying’ about account implications they’re not a consideration with a generation defining talent. At the current rate of spending signing Scalvini now probably saves hundreds of millions of Euros.
