CM: ‘Starting to regret the choice’ – Milan and Juventus eye Man Utd’s struggling €42m man

In the summer, Joshua Zirkzee opted for a move to Manchester United instead of moving to AC Milan. Three months later, there are suggestions that he could leave the Red Devils, with him ‘regretting’ the move.

Throughout the summer there were suggestions that Zirkzee preferred a move to another Serie A team before leaping to the Premier League, but he eventually went back on that decision. However, this is largely due to Milan removing themselves from negotiations due to Kia Joorabchian’s excessive commission demands.

Now, just a few months into the season, he is already ‘regretting’ his decision to move to Manchester, and there is a possibility that he could return to Italy in the next few months, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Dutchman is already being deemed a €36 million flop, and with him struggling on and off the pitch, a return to more familiar settings wouldn’t be out of the question. In fact, it is stated that he would ‘gladly return’ to Italy.

Currently, Juventus and the Rossoneri are looking at the possibility of bringing him back to Serie A, especially with the Red Devils being open to a loan move. However, the Bianconeri are a more possible destination, with the Diavolo seemingly closed to the idea for good.

    1. 100%, cannot be trusted, let him rot, always wondered why Motta never really went for him at Juve.

I think a should stick with what we have and in the summer go all in for Osimen, it’s many will doubt we can but he maybe double what Zirkzee costs but us 10x better

      1. Osimhens contract will expire in 2026 so I doubt that he next summer will cost the double of what Zirkzee was sold for but who knows. Currently he earns 6 mil pr. year at Galatasaray but his base salary at Napoli is 10 mil so it might become a hurdle and Napoli might be reluctant to sell to a direct rival.

        1. We imo need 2 midfielders: upgrades over RLC and Bennacer and a striker.

If Tammy fails then another one in the summer with an RB, if Calabria doesn’t put the performance of his lifetime.

My idea would welcome for instance cheaper player like Embolo who has exp in 2 striker system and is super flexible along with Osi. That will take you to 80-85M max, depending on our skill maybe even 10-15M less.

Bigger issue is giving Saudis Bennacer for as much as money as we can get and sell RLC back to EPL. This give you funds to go for Frendrup (RLC sale should give us similar funds) and Ricci (hope Pioli can convince Saudis for a 30M deal).

          1. Well nothing personal against neither but I could accept selling those two players and at least in Bennacers case he is far too injury prone for me to still see it as feasible keeping him considering his high wages. I wouldn’t mind Bernabe and Frendrup joining us unless we actually would be willing to fork up and buy a player like Ricci.

I always liked Calabria so I wouldn’t mind if he stays but at this point of time it seems most likely he will move on either in January or next summer if his renewal rumors is to be believed.

My knowledge of Embolo is limited so it wouldn’t really be right for me to comment on that.

Well hadn’t seen the last part of yours before now but seems we agree 😀

        2. I understand but if we want to really challenge we are going to need a couple of players with €8-10m salaries, it stands to reason.
It has to be done and if it can’t be then we are in the lower tier of big clubs and we are not getting to the higher tier any time soon, damning indictment but harsh reality

          1. Well I’m sure we want to challenge but will we be willing to pay for it might be a different matter. I agree though that there should be some willingness to adjust our wage cap structure if we actually wants to take the next leap.

      1. Milan are not playing with 2 strikers. Fonseca realises that that’s unsustainable for the teams set of players. And personally I’m not too fanciful of strikers that don’t score goals be it a second striker

  1. What I don’t understand is why did they even buy him when they have Mount and Fernandes. He is closer to AMC than CF and they bought him with team full of players that play in this position. If he plays with Hojlund they can’t play Fernando and so on. The transfer made 0 sense but I thought they know where will he play. They expected this guy to score 30 goals even though everyone outside Manchester knew it won’t happen? 😀

    1. Well, Man u have looked clueless for a while now, just like their counterpart Chelsea. However, I don’t understand why Zirkzee fell for the deal. I wish him luck though, that things would develop for the better.

  2. Off topic but, what is this news about us trying to get Tonali back, they signed him for €70 million they’ll want at-least 35-40€ considering how our management is cheap, they won’t offer anything over 25€ million

    1. @Daniel. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. I think there is some truth to this Tonali rumor. Newcastle is also in a bad spot with financial FairPlay so they will need to cut or sell players which is to our advantage in getting Tonali back.

So I think there is truth to this rumor.

      1. Indeed. AV sold Douglas Luiz at a discount just to balance the books and be in line with the FPR, so Newcastle might be forced to do the same at one point. But then there is the question if Gerry is willing to spend more than 20-25 mln for a player.

  3. We need a goal scorer, we are already struggling with Abraham and morata, we need someone like jonathan david, marmoush, karim konate. Or just someone fonsesca sees fit to thrive with his tactics

  4. When are players going to stop letting their agents control (and ruin) their career. The agent works for them, not the other way around. If the player wanted to go somewhere else and the agent won’t or can’t make that happen then you fire him and get a new agent. Why any young player would want to go to Man United is beyond me. They signed Holjund, a good young striker last season, who did well, but then they they go and get Zirkzee to take his spot. If Zirkzee doesn’t score for 2 games they go back and play Holjund. Next season they will bring someone else in. They don’t give these players time to grow.

    1. I overall agree with your sentiments here but in regard of Højlund I can actually understand why he joined them as he has always been a professed Man Utd. fan so at least from that perspective it makes full sense joining them as it was his dream destination from the beginning.

    2. Exactly.

And switching clubs every few seasons isn’t exactly good for your career either.

Very few players have been able to recreate the same form at multiple clubs.

Ibra is probably one of the few.

  5. In the meantime Retegui 8 games 8 goals and 2 assists. Costed Atalanta 20mil. In the previous season when i said get this guy he costed 16mil. But the idiots here as usual were going “Italians are not good enough…” Well that didn’t age well.

    1. It’s the manager which is problem, and the management.
Gasperini understands better the characteristics of his player’s and adapt his tactics.

Even if Retegui joins Milan he might have scored 2 or 3goals mostly. Let him enjoy there than being blasted by keyboard warrior’s on Sempremilan 😂

  6. Eh. He made his choice. Technically the second time he flops after trying to make the step up to a top team (Bayern the first time). Move on and find someone else. There is always another one.

  7. This one-season wonder to me looks more like an overrated flop than anything else. Morata is miles ahead of him – experience, leadership, works for the team, great work rate, overall nice guy. Morata is not a prolific striker but he elevates the team he plays for and is a great role model. I am glad that we got Morata instead of Zirkzee, and I am glad that we didn’t allow Z’s greedy agent to rob us.

This is likely just journalist speculation looking for clicks but if there is any truth to this, for me it’s a hard pass. Please keep the overrated Zirkzee and his greedy agent away from my Milan.

  8. We could’ve gone in for Fullkrug like we had links for, but the management went for a quick freebee loan for a striker who can’t score from 4yds… and yet somehow starts over Jovic and Morata.
