CM: Milan laying the groundwork as Massara pushes for signing of Marseille star

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a strong interest in signing Marseille winger Florian Thauvin on a free transfer ahead of next summer, a report claims.

MilanNews reported last week that the entourage of Thauvin have offered the right-winger to Milan in recent days, with Marseille asking for €15m to part ways with their star, whose contract will expire next summer.

Vito Angele reported on Twitter yesterday that Thauvin remains a player that the Milan management are attentive to, especially given the fact he will be available for free next summer.

Now, Calciomercato.com have confirmed that Milan directors Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini did hold talks with the agents of the 27-year-old over the course of last week, and the discussions are unlikely to end even though the window is shut.

Massara is the one leading the charge to sign Thauvin, whom he tried to bring to Roma when he was sporting director there. The French international, as mentioned, has a contract expiring in 2021 and is not close to a renewal.

Milan have sprung into action as a result and want to find an agreement with his agents to try sign him on a free, or even in January if Marseille open up to a cut-price sale.
