CM: Milan likely to hire manager from abroad to replace Pioli – the situation

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli’s future with AC Milan hangs in the balance and the management has started looking at potential replacements for next season. According to a report, it’s likely that a potential new manager will arrive from abroad.

The defeat against Roma highlighted Pioli’s tactical struggles in the big games and as Gerry Cardinale was at San Siro, it was far from a good impression. The future is still very uncertain for the manager and a goodbye at the end of the season is possible.

According to Calciomercato.com, Julen Lopetegui’s candidacy has been confirmed on several fronts, as Milan appreciate his playing style and ability to work with young players. He’s not the only one being monitored, though, as the Rossoneri also are keeping their eyes on other candidates from abroad.

Indeed, the interest in Lopetegui and the imminent arrival of the former LA Galaxy sporting director  Jovan Kirovski – to work with the second team – are telling clues. Indeed, Milan are very much for bringing in a professional from abroad to make the leap in quality.

While there are some options domestically, Juventus now appear to be in pole position for Thiago Motta. The potential Pioli replacement is bound to be more ‘exotic’, therefore, as the report concludes.

  1. PATHETIC!if the want lopetegui we can keep pioli its no upgrade. Why cant we really try to get de zerbi who want to train in italy again and has bounds with milan.A young exiting coach with a clear playing style pioli has no style its just individual brilliance

    1. how is Sh*t Zerbi any better? because the media hyped him up for you?

I swear people like you think he won the treble last year or some sh*t

      1. Just like you defend Pioli like he won the treble and couple champions leagues.
1 trophy in almost 30 years of coaching.
De Zerbi or an actual Zebra will do the same thing Pioli can do and more.

      2. Boulden you must be a Pioli lover.
Boulden prefers a manager without tactics when playing big games
        God help Milan overcome

      1. I agree, I want to see a Milan that defends well, and that’s why If we are to continue with pioli then he must tighten up our defense(by signing a CDM), and not overrated DeZerbi, I prefer Motta

  2. Lame, not gonna lie.. id rather we cash out and get someone with a bit more spunk. Someone with character not another passive muppet like pioli

  3. Ahaha so the leap in quality is bringing nobodies from LA Galaxy lol. As for Motta i said few months back that Juve will over take Milan in that race cause Milan managment is sleeping as usual. No suprice there. Juve is building a nice young team btw while Milan just gets random cheep fixes here and there. I won’t be supriced if Juve dominates again in a couple of years while Milan is still fighting for top 4.

    1. Milan’s average squad age is 26.6 with some of the better players yet to hit their prime years. The Under 19s are in the semi finals of the UEFA Youth League, the Under 17s are setting records. Not sure how much younger you want this team to be but the future looks bright from where I am standing.

      1. How many times have we heard that U19 U17 has the next big thing ? And how many times it really happen ? The best that we have gotten out of the youth sector in long time is Calabria. Also 26.6 is not exactly young in footabll terms. Its practicly devoloped players. Im talking about players like Yildiz, Fagoli, Soulé who are already good but are still around 20. Simmilar like how Theo/Leao were when we got them.

    1. Now that Motta is almost gone sadly. Xavi or De Zerbi. Now there’s no piont giving examples of inexperienced coaches who have succeed/failed at big clubs. It’s just common sense that some would make it and some won’t as been happening. I’d rather gamble with certain potentials than sticking with a unsatisfied certainty. At least personally ,I’m not expecting those inexperienced coaches to do much worse as not finishing in CL positions, not winning a couple of matches in Copa Italia, and in the CL not being able to…. Well can lose all the matches and only thing will be not qualifying to the next round, nothing worse than that can ever happen. And out of 10 derbies they just have to fight to get a single victory. Doesn’t look all that difficult to maintain the current standard it seems. Maybe the experienced Pioli is the really risk here.

      1. Oh forgot about the playing style. That’s also very important. All Xavi and co would need to do is moving the ball at Hellas Verona passing tempo. That won’t be slower than what I’ve been seeing with pioli

  4. Is it some kind of joke? Lopetegui who failed at every club he managed? I would rather see Abate if we are going to gamble, cause Lopetegi is 100% flop. While Abate is 50/50

  5. We should get proven world class manager like Jurgen Klop or even Conte. Stop trying with new or upcoming name. Maybe get Ancelotti back to Milan even if it is very extremely slim chance. But you never know…

    1. Wrong mbm vastly adequate you mean right.
Pioli has never won a SERIA-A trophy until Milan.
Why didn’t he win with Inter when manager there?

MBM says vast Superior, in what tactical manner?
      Get Frank Rijkaard Mbm
