CM: Milan lining up Hummels as potential Kjaer replacement – why the player is keen

By Oliver Fisher -

With a Champions League final on the horizon Mats Hummels has the chance to potentially end his Borussia Dortmund career in the best way, and then AC Milan are interested in signing him.

Calciomercato.com write how at 35 years old, the centre-back is still among the best in the role at European level and, as a free transfer, he has attracted several teams. Among these, according to the German newspaper BILD, are Milan and Juventus.

Hummels is tempted by the possibility and could really think about moving to Italy from next summer. According to the report, the defender is considering destinations that are within reach of Munich, where his family lives. In this sense, both Milan and Turin would be suitable.

For now no decision has been made: first maximum concentration on the final against Real Madrid, then the final choice. Hummels will meet with his father and advisor Hermann and with the Dortmund sporting director, Sebastian Kehl.

An attempt by the club to convince the player to stay for another year cannot be ruled out, but Calciomercato.com state that at Milan Hummels could ideally take Simon Kjaer’s place as the experienced defender.

The Rossoneri could in fact sign two players in that department given how bad they have been defensively this season. Juve will also change a lot at the back as they will say goodbye to Alex Sandro and expect to receive offers for Bremer too.

The Bianconeri have liked Hummels for a long time and a few years ago he even filmed himself wearing a Juventus shirt while taking part in a musical festival.

  1. Dude is one year older than Kjaer. Yes, he has been fit for most of his time at Dortmund but he could become prone to injuries the moment he leaves. Why? We never know but given his age it is a reasonable assumption. So 3 years ago maybe a yes. But now it is a no.

    1. Well, with a free transfer and reasonable salary he can be a good addition to the bench. I doubt he expects to remain key player much longer, especially if he joins a big team.

  2. Hopefully. Hummels is a stiff. Decent header on corners, slowest man on the pitch at all times. Not what is needed, an old slow, high-wage player.

    1. I guess you missed the matches against Milan where he dominated the pitch taking the ball away from pretty much every Milan player with such an ease you could have sworn he was playing against 10-year-olds.

  3. Depending on salary, Hummels would be a great addition to the lockerroom. We need some vets to teach the young players. Hummels can help Thiaw as they are both German and provide leadership to make sure everyone’s head stays on during hard periods.

  4. Hummels would have been good 10 years ago
If he comes at low wage, get him
If he wants an astronomical wage then no
