CM: Milan may have hit the jackpot as Reijnders becomes untouchable

By Isak Möller -

Tijjani Reijnders has impressed at the start of this season and Stefano Pioli has certainly placed a lot of confidence in him. The Dutchman, in fact, has featured in every single game this season.

Arriving from AZ Alkmaar in the summer for around €20m plus bonuses, Reijnders has quickly established himself in the starting XI of Milan. He has featured in all eight games this season, playing seven of them from start for a total of 614 minutes.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, the midfielder has become irreplaceable and essential for this Milan side. While rotation is needed in today’s football, a coach usually has 3 to 4 players he relies on more and for Pioli, Reijnders appears to be one of them.

The 25-year-old can play both as a defensive playmaker and a box-to-box midfielder, making him a useful player especially now with Rade Krunic and Ismael Bennacer’s injuries. He just needs to add goals to his game, but as the report concludes, Milan may have hit the jackpot with this signing.

  1. Yes of course. A jackpot . I knew he will be a key player. He is playing about 50+ games this season. He is key to Milan being successful.

    1. Who is ibra? Is he milan’s new coach? No? Then don’t bring him into the conversation. Let him retire in peace. I hate it when milan fans bring in old names who no longer in club into conversation.

      1. Milan has a bit of culture in involving legends into the development process for their young stars, nothing wrong at all to mention Ibra, one of our best attacker ever

  2. His shooting is actually one of his main strengths, just been unlucky in front of goal. Expect to see some bangers from this kid

    1. I agree because previously he has made some stunners from afar so this was already one of his great qualities in az, the same goes for how he wins the ball back and also push forward.
The fact that he rejected barcalona should always have been an indication that this player had something to offer and he and chukwuze were the 2 players i was the most intrigued to see in red and black of the signings we have made this summer.

    2. I respectfully disagree. I have been following him closely since we got him. He is missing the targets where he should have easily scored. The back heel he tried against Lazio was a bad judgment of his. With a bit of more strength, he would have scored with a regular or sliding snot like Okafor did.

      1. well with all due respect all players makes qestionable decisions from time to time, even the very best does that, but he did score several great shots from a distance while playing at az alkmaar

    3. Last game, where the ball landed, he did well to even get shots off. He will come good. He is doing so many other things right that even if the goals don’t come, he still contributes to every aspect of our play.

  3. Why’re you all obssesed with his finishing. He’s a midfielder. A provider. And he does just that. Last night, first goal came from him. He passed to Leao, who assisted for Pulisic. For me, he’s doing what he was bought for. I just hope he can stay fit. He’s been playing a lot of matches.

    1. And WHEN he starts scoring goals, people will complain that he doesn’t block enough shots. And when he does that too, they’ll complain that he hasn’t saved any penalties yet. And when… Well, you get the picture.

  4. After a couple of seasons at most , PSG and Co will be bothering us with huge offers for Reijnders and Musah. Boys are really good. This Milan squad can be trusted.

  5. He is pretty perfect except for his finishing. But his main role is not to score, it is to give to the team opportunities to score. He is a playmaker, an attacking midfielder (who can also defend). Sure, he should work on his finishing because if he can ADD to his numerous qualities, good finishing, he will be world class. He was our best signing. People keep hyping Adli. Reijnders is much better than Adli. Reijnders is the real deal. Adli still needs to develop more (he does have the potential and is very young). Back to Reijnders, the idea of having Ibra working with him on his finishing is very appealing. I hope Ibra is integrated back into Milan in a role of working with the players – their mentality, their motivation, and some attacking skills.

  6. Bro I must be in dreamland. Wtf is happening to the hype here. First was Adli now we have Reinjders. Deer man started off decent but we really didn’t know at the time the level of the opposition. So first set of games, we realized now was low opposition, so it seems he looked good. Then came Inter and he hasn’t been the same since. Now we had two games vs teams that have more games than points earned and he’s back on being great? Hmmm what a coincidence. He has been on the decline since the first 2 or 3 games imo. His movements and passing haven’t been the same. Not sure if it’s the difficulty of Serie A or the demands of a top club. But it’s just interesting to me .Not saying he isn’t good. But let’s not make his recent two games out to be like it was spectacular.

  7. He’s doing fine but when the real test arrived (aka Inter) he collapsed like the rest. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

  8. I know many may not like this but he is better then Tonali, and he hasnt even started yet. More to come from him

Another one that will keep improving is Pulisic

    1. Because Tonali is completely different player to Reijnders. Tonali is more of a box to box/DM player while Reijnders is more of mezzala/advanced playmaker. Tonali is comparable more to RLC.

  9. Reijndeers has been the worst midfielder since inter for me, seeing the way he allows opposition players fly by him, and do what they want is so terrible to watch, can’t believe I had really high hopes for him, I don’t care about his finishing, that’s not even his job.

Adli is my favorite right now, he knows when to get tackle done, and is at the right place to get it done..

I’m sure it’s pioli’s fault that we allow the opposition enough space to fly by us, but what the hell?

  10. With the formation that Milan is playing we will always allow space in the midfield unless we take control of possession…the issue with inter match was pioli fault..we were not compact enough…so it’s not down to the players fault. Most are new to the derby match..

  11. Still plenty of room for improvement because he didn’t exactly played well against Roma and Inter. But at least he had performed against other teams so far.
RLC has impressed but looked to be tired recently despite sitting out the international break.
Musah has done well in every game he played despite the different positions.
Chukwueze is the disappointment so far, always dribbling without end product. I would prefer Romero ahead of him at the moment.

  12. I have never watched him when he was in az nor i watched his highlights on youtube.
But after only one friendly game in USA, i immediately said that this player is gonna be a star.
He’s like bennacer but with better offensive play
