CM: Milan ‘only possible destination’ for Morata as Zlatan gets involved – the situation

The AC Milan management are continuing to work on giving Paulo Fonseca a new striker and at the moment Alvaro Morata seems to be the main target.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan have already mobilised in the past few hours to try to speed up the Morata front. It was Zlatan Ibrahimovic who entered the negotiations in person with the aim of trying to convince Morata of his role in the Milan project.

The directors want to speed things up given that preseason begins today, and the recent statements that Morata gave to the Spanish press suggested that he has not completely closed the door to the idea of leaving Atletico Madrid.

The Rossoneri are currently the ‘only possible destination’ in the event that the striker leaves Atletico as per the report, and he currently has a contract worth €6m net per season until June 2026. If the payment of the €13m clause does not represent an obstacle, the salary needs negotiating.

The Spaniard’s strong bond with Italy and his focus on the project (he rejected a huge offer from Saudi Arabia) are all weapons in the hands of Milan, who are willing to offer a deal until 2027 or 2028 which involves a slight pay cut. Once the European Championships are over, the situation will be defined.

  1. Only fitting that we are getting the “Fonseca” of strikers. Just as Fonseca won’t drive us to Serie B nor will we win anything. Morata will have a mediocre season with 7 goals and 3 assists. I just hope he doesn’t get a salary at the level of Theo or Leao and ruin our salary structure in the process.

    1. Another one… please check Morata goal scoring result in the past seasons before writing comments.

I’m not saying Morata is better than Messi and CR7, but these comments are getting ridiculous. Guy scored over 20 goals in LaLiga, literally no other striker that was linked with Milan had as good scoring result.

      1. I think someone should check his complete goal-scoring resume, not just the previous season, which, as in many cases through the years, could be just an anomaly. Think Piatek, Belotti, Quagliarella…

He’s like some kind of poor man’s version of last season’s Zirkzee, so we have serious doubts about his goal-scoring capacity, less talent, and a style of play that probably is not best performed by guys in their mid-30s. But hey, he will most likely say that it was always his dream to play for Milan and he will kiss the badge.

      2. Ummm he scored 13 and 15 goals in la Liga the past two season NOT 20.

And scored 2 in UCL last year and none the year before – so not sure what math you are using but 20 goal scorer he hasn’t been in years

Now 13M for Morata is still great business and we should sign him – BUT – that shouldn’t have precluded the purchase of Zirkzee as well. He AND Morata should be our two strikers with Jovic number 3

  2. As a direct replacement for experienced Giroud he is a good signing. However, if he is the only CF to arrive then that’s not good enough because he is not decisive enough for us to win scudetto or go far in Europe. Inter has Laturo, Juve has Vlahovic, Napoli has Osemieh. Who do we have? Maybe sign Jonathan David + Morata to give us depth.

    1. You can’t sign 2 “maybe good maybe not” strikers to rival the other teams, if you want a good striker prepare to spend a lot of money and go get a terrific one.

  3. I hope Mr X is Gonzalo Ramos or Jaeo Felix. I know moncada has been scouting both especially Felix for many years. I much rather for us to take a calculated gamble on either like we did with Pulisic and convert them into world class than to go for a older striker. Both suit our philosophy and I’m sure Fonseca is keeping tabs on his countries best talent. Another safe option is Jonathan David whom he played for at Lille.

  4. Morata does perform at the highest level with Spain thou and why he is their coaches first choice-

Euro qualifiers: 9 goals 1 assist in 16 games
Euro playoff: 7 goals in 15 games

World cup qualifiers: 7 goals 2 assists in 12 games
world cup playoff: 3 goals 1 assist in 4 games

His league record is a bit up and down but last season he scored 15 league goals with 4 assists in 32 games and 5 goals 1 assist in 10 champions league games.

Athletico Madrid isnt the most offensive team in the world so that is good numbers there. In the Spanish national team who play more offensive football his numbers are better.

I still think Dovbyk would be a better signing as he is 4 years younger, but with whats left out there for us, Morata is a good signing. He will score as much as Giroud did
