CM: Milan ready to rival Arsenal for €60m RB Leipzig star – Rangnick factor ‘could be key’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could re-ignite their interest in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamercano in the summer with Ralf Rangnick’s impending arrival, a report claims.

Speculation is rife that the Rossoneri will undergo another revolution once the current campaign is over, with current Red Bull Head of Football Ralf Rangnick set to come in as head coach and sporting director.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan had a ‘top secret meeting’ in July with Upamecano’s agent, but now his name could once again come back into fashion.

The 21-year-old – who has made 27 appearances for RB Leipzig this season in all competitions – has also been followed closely by Milan’s chief scout Geoffrey Moncada, who knows him very well since his time at Valenciennes and the early years in Salzburg.

Given Rangnick’s arrival it cannot be excluded that Milan go back in for the Frenchman. His contract expires in June 2021, but he has a €60million termination clause.

Milan have already made it clear that they do want to exercise their option to buy Simon Kjaer, the report claims, and could sell Mateo Musacchio too.

That would mean only captain Alessio Romagnoli, Leo Duarte and Matteo Gabbia would remain as centre-back options in the squad. There are several Premier League clubs on Upamecano, with Arsenal most heavily linked, but Milan will try until the end and the ‘Rangnick factor could be key’.
