CM: Milan renewal prevented Arsenal from making January attempt for midfielder

By Isak Möller -

Ismael Bennacer renewed his contract with AC Milan at the beginning of January, signing a deal until 2027 with the club. And that was an important move by the Rossoneri, with several big teams lurking.

Bennacer, just like Theo Hernandez, was sitting on a contract valid until 2024 but ended up renewing with Milan. While the left-back signed a two-year deal, the midfielder agreed to sign a three-year deal with the Rossoneri.

It was two important renewals for Milan to get over the line, with several big teams lurking. According to Calciomercato.com, Arsenal had their eyes set on their former player Bennacer and wanted to make an attempt in January.

However, before they could submit an offer and even open talks with the entourage of Bennacer, he renewed his contract with Milan. This ended any hope for Arsenal to lower the price tag by referring to the 2024 contract.

It’s a situation that Milan could end up finding themselves in anyway, as Rafael Leao is yet to renew his deal with the club. He will also expire in 2024 and it remains to be seen how that saga will end.
