CM: Milan set Maignan price tag – renewal talks planned amid high demands

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan want to tie Mike Maignan down to a long-term deal, but it will not be easy because the demands from his entourage are high according to a report.

Having arrived from the Ligue 1 club as the replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer of 2021, Maignan quickly earned the nickname ‘Magic Mike’ for his incredible interventions.

He was a big part of the Scudetto win that came in that campaign, and he has even shown himself to have a knack for playmaking given his assists record.

According to what is being reported by Calciomercato.com, Geoffrey Moncada and the other directors are discussing a possible contract renewal with the Frenchman’s agents which will involve a pay rise to reflect his status as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

Milan will try to agree a long-term deal with the former Lille man but it won’t be easy because the demands that have emerged from the first rounds of talks are high.

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Maignan too given that they must find a replacement for Manuel Neuer and they are lining up a summer move.

However, the report mentions that the Milan management would not entertain offers that are any less than €80m.

  1. If an offer of 70-80m really come, I’d say sell him.

His performance since our Scudetto season dropped noticeably and he is also quite injury prone for a keeper.

From those amount use 20m for Gregorio/Carnesecchi and use the rest to strengthen other areas such as DM/Striker.

  2. Time to say goodbye. Maignan has been on a decline since we last won the scudetto and he is too injury prone for us to pay him 8-9m.

Sell Maignan for 80m and get Carnesecchi for 20m and spend rest on a top class prolific striker like Viktor Gyökeres.

  3. Not sure anyone will pay 80 for Mike. 60 sounds more appropriate and I would be quite happy with that sum. We’ll be getting another ~30m for CDK, Saelemaekers and Colombo, and there would probably be 30-40m available without sales, so that’s about 120-130m total. More than enough to get a proper young striker a 40-60m, a proper DM at 30-40m, and a proper Mike replacement at 20-30m. If we can sign our targets at the lower end of those estimates we might even have enough left for another good CB (Buongiorno at 30m) although I don’t think we need another one. If anything we need a good backup for Theo.

  4. I hate to say it but if we get an offer over 60mil, sell.

I like Maignan, but his contract demands is too high to justify, especially given how he’s been playing lately. He’s made quite a few errors this year. Not all his fault because the defense keeps changing due to injuries, but still he’s underperformed for the 8+ mil he’s asking for.

Use the money to improve the midifeld. We used to have Tonali, Bennacer, Kessie & Krunic. Now we have Bennacer, Reijnders Adli and Musah. We’re SO MUCH WORSE TODAY.

Sell Reijnders (terrible season) and Musah (not talented enough) and sign a real DM (holding mid) to play in the pivot with Bennacer. Adli can back up. I’m not sure Pobega fits in with a 4231 either.

Revamp the entire midfield ASAP and DO NOT LISTEN TO MONEYBALL MONCADA.

He spent 120mil this year and landed us with this terrible midfield. 100% his fault.

  5. Looking at the comments, wow! How did we get here. Seems the general feeling is sell , without thinking twice too.
