CM: Milan stay not ruled out but next few weeks are crucial for Maignan

Just like last summer, AC Milan will have to persuade their goalkeeper Mike Maignan to remain, and the next few weeks will be crucial for exactly that.

It would be fair to describe the current situation at Milan as a little bit chaotic. Two weeks after sacking the management, there are still no replacements in sight, leaving the players in limbo as they don’t know what the future will look like.

One of the players who could explore his options this summer is Maignan, who nearly decided to leave the club already last summer. In the end, he stayed thanks to the persuasion of Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare, who have both left.

Many factors at play

According to Calciomercato.com, Maignan was disappointed to see Allegri and Tare leave last month, seeing as they convinced him to believe in the Milan project. However, while there is disappointment, his relationship with the club hasn’t been torn to shreds.

Indeed, everything will depend on the project for next season. Maignan and his entourage will need to assess if the calibre is high enough, especially since he’s getting older (turning 31 in July) and this might be his last chance for a big transfer.

Furthermore, the World Cup could definitely act as an audition for him, and increased interest from big clubs could also prompt him to push for an exit. In short, there are many factors at play but for Milan fans, the big takeaway should perhaps be that no decision has been made yet.
