CM: Milan identify potential replacements amid ‘tension’ with Ballo-Toure

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking for another left-back with Fode Ballo-Toure on his way out and there are reportedly three names that currently stand out.

As per Calciomercato.com, there has been some tension between Milan and Ballo-Touré in the last few days. The Senegalese full-back rejected Fulham because he wants to look for a team that guarantees him a starting spot.

What filters from Milan is that he eventually rejected the west London club after a long and questionable delay, which thus saw a €4m deal vanish which is a figure that the Rossoneri management had accepted.

In terms of potential replacements, Riccardo Calafiori of Basel remains an option because Milan would like to entrust the spot to an Italian player with potential.

Much will depend on the requests of the Swiss club because at the moment the budget available is low after the 8 signings made in the past few weeks.

Another idea is Rogerio of Sassuolo who has been at Sassuolo for six years now. Luca Pellegrini was on the list and there have been contacts with the full-back’s agent, but he is not the first choice.

    1. Actually isn’t Rogerio also fulfill squad requirement? He came to Italy at Feb 2016 so from 18 years. He should fulfill the requirement for homegrown player (association trained) even if he is not Italian.

All those 3 could be options. Calafiori is youngest, possibly most talented but also need to grow a lot.
Pellegrini is decent but his injury record is worrying
Rogerio is oldest (25) but also the most experienced and established player.

      1. I’m not sure about Rogerio.

Calafiori would be cheaper than Rogerio, as Sassuolo never price their players cheaply.

        1. Yes, but the low price tag also give some concern – maybe he isn’t as good as we thought?

Usually young talented players that already play in a big club cost more – but he only cost 1m from Roma to Basel – and now maybe only worth 4-5m.

Just look at for example, Destiny Udogie, Giorgio Scalvini and Baldanzi. They all worth at least 20m.

I never see him play but sempremilan also have an article that Milan management am not too sure about his quality…

  1. Well this really aged well.. apparently Wolfsburg already agreed deals with Sassuolo for him.

    So Calafiori or Pellegrini?
