CM: Milan to launch bid for Fofana after Paqueta sale – management believe they can beat Leicester

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will now turn their attentions towards signing a central defender after resolving the future of Lucas Paqueta, according to a report.

A number of sources are reporting that Paqueta is now in fact closing in on a move to Lyon, and it will not be a paid loan with an option to buy but rather a guaranteed €20m.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan will now begin their assault for Wesley Fofana of Saint-Etienne, who is the number one target to reinforce the defence as per most of the major sources.

With Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia the only healthy options at present due to the fact Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte are all out, there is a desperate need to sign a new centre-back.

As a result, Milan will make a new attempt to sign Fofana on Tuesday, with contacts having been ongoing for some time, both with the management of the Ligue 1 club and with the player’s entourage.

The road is not easy  but the Rossoneri are trying, aware that there is also a strong interest from Leicester. There are a number of other targets from Milenkovic to Tomiyasu, but Fofana has always been at the top of the list for Maldini, Massara and Moncada.

It is for this reason that Milan are trying to steal a march on Leicester, and although the player is intrigued there is no agreement, and Milan in this uncertainty are trying to insert themselves.
