CM: Milan to resume long-standing love affair with fresh attempt for €60m midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ready to return to negotiations with Benfica for midfielder Florentino Luis this summer, according to a report.

We revealed in January that contacts were held with the Portuguese side for Florentino, with Milan wanting to sign him on the basis of an 18-month loan with the right to buy, with a €40m bid placed that was no deemed sufficient.

However, Calciomercato.com are now reporting that the relationship between Milan and Florentino is a long-standing love affair.

The story is that of mutual interest and of a negotiation that Milan have conducted in recent months, without however reaching an agreement on the overall evaluation, between a paid loan and an option to buy. The €120million release clause that Benfica has included in its contract expiring in June 2024 was also a hurdle.

In view of the next season however, the two clubs could return to talk, because both from the boy and his entourage signs of strong appreciation for Milan have arrived, a prestigious team that intends to offer the prospect of growth compared to what he has had at Benfica.

So far he has made 29 overall appearances for the Lisbon-based side, including seven in the league and two in the Champions League during this season.

Milan have liked the player for some time and he could form the basis of a pairing with Ismael Bennacer in front of the defence, or in a midfield three the Algerian could play more of a mezzala role.
