CM: Milan unwilling to pay €15m for Chelsea midfielder – other formulas to be explored

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are considering making a concrete attempt to bring Tiemoue Bakayoko back to the club from Chelsea, according to a report.

Bakayoko is a player who knows Milan and Italian football well, as the Frenchman spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan with the Rossoneri under Gennaro Gattuso and last season worked under the same coach at Napoli.

According to Calciomercato.com, the player now wants to return to Milan, with Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara considering whether to push ahead with a deal to give Stefano Pioli a complete midfield with four quality players when factoring in Ismael Bennacer, Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali.

However, Chelsea want €15m to sell the midfielder and they are set to exercise a one-year option they hold, which would extend his contract until 2023. It is possible that alternative formulas could be discussed though, such as another loan with option to buy. A situation worth monitoring, therefore.

  1. His salary at Chelsea is about 6.5 million euro. It would be cheaper for them to let him go rather than paying him. They don’t even use him in the squad.

  2. Chelsea is smart. Extend so they don’t loose him for nothing. They know they can loan him again so salary not an issue. Like we should have done with Hakan and Donnaruma. I’d rather we spend the 15M on Kamara who is younger, better and can play both DM and CB

  3. Don’t play ball with Chelsea on this one. Not that he’s a bad player. But there are better financial options that could bring just as much.
