CM: Milan’s attack primed for summer overhaul – only Giroud is certain to stay

By Oliver Fisher -

There are far more question marks than certainties when it comes to AC Milan’s attack and that is why an overhaul in the summer is possible, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that only Olivier Giroud is certain of a spot in the squad next season. The striker – who will celebrate his 37th birthday on 30 September – will remain after renewing his contract until 2024 (with a verbal option until 2025) at €3.5m net per year, which he earned after scoring 27 goals in 76 matches for the Rossoneri and 13 in 38 this season.

Rafael Leao: Leao meanwhile is the hottest topic for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, but the Portuguese winger is not close to renewing his contract which expires in 2024.

Milan have offered a salary worth around €7m net per season but the €20m fine to Sporting CP and the €150m clause (which his agents want to lower) are though obstacles.

It cannot be excluded that the decision will be postponed to June and if he doesn’t extend his deal he will be sold, because Milan want to avoid another Donnarumma, Calhanoglu and Kessie situation.

Divock Origi: Together with De Ketelaere he is the great disappointment of the last transfer market as the Belgian has just two goals in 30 appearances and a total of 985 minutes played.

In order to convince him to leave Liverpool, Milan offered a four-year contract worth €4m net per year which is €5.24m gross with the Growth Decree.

A sale in the summer cannot be excluded, especially if a new call from the Premier League should arrive as Milan – who signed him on a free – could net a capital gain of €10m.

Ante Rebic: The Croatian has three goals and two assists in 26 appearances but that not enough to deserve a spot in the squad for next season. Back in January, Maldini and Massara met Rebic’s entourage to discuss an exit strategy in view of the next summer transfer market.

He would be allowed to leave for €15m and in addition to that there would be the saving of the €3.5m net salary received by the Croatian as part of his deal running until June 2025.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: At 41 years old with four appearances and only one goal – scored via a retaken penalty against Udinese – the season has not been kind to Ibrahimovic.

The latest problem was sustained on Sunday in warm-ups during the game against Lecce, and his contract expiring in June will not be renewed so it cannot be excluded that the Swede decides to hang up his boots.

  1. 1 year too late but the right move. Ibra should have stayed this year for his character but Rebic should have been sold while he had value and Origi should have never been bought. It’s not hindsight the guy has always been bench trash with a few clutch goals. Not Milan caliber.

  2. AC Milan pay origi 2m euro nett / goals . Rebic 1m euro nett / goals. Not only that but CDK 0 goals with salary 2,5m euro nett. Origi and Rebic must be sold next summer, for CDK if good offer or swap with striker better accept that. I am afraid CDK will follow paqueta path in ACM
