CM: Morata tops the UCL scoring charts – the background on Milan’s summer interest

Alvaro Morata has found himself at the top of the pile in Europe and there was a time when AC Milan were pursuing him to lead their forward line, a report has recalled.

Calciomercato.com write how Atletico Madrid overwhelmed Celtic with a 6-0 win on Tuesday and once again it was Morata who shone. The Spanish striker netted a brace to move onto 5 goals in 4 Champions League matches meaning he leads the competition in scoring ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

In the league he boasts 7 goals in 10 matches played too compared to 13 in 36 matches in the last campaign, which seems to justify his decision to remain at Atleti despite the links with a summer exit, having found a very profitable partnership with Antoine Griezmann.

Morata’s return to Serie A seemed possible , so much so that in the last transfer window Roma, Milan, Inter and Juventus had knocked on the Spaniard’s door. Roma, after Abraham’s injury, were looking for a striker and Morata seemed to be the first suspect, but then the Giallorossi club opted for Romelu Lukaku.

Inter tried for the ex-Juve man to replace Lukaku, given Morata is much appreciated by Simone Inzaghi, but due to his price being too high (release clause set at €20m) they then turned to Arnautovic.

Milan had also previously given Morata some thought, as they were looking for a deputy to Olivier Giroud, but the Rossoneri preferred to focus on a younger player like Noah Okafor, who arrived from Salzburg.

      1. Yes, it’s the management who’s satisfied with 1m striker, youth colombo, and free jovic. They thought that oka4 is striker and jovic can be trained to be world class player. Well here we are..now they’re looking for another striker in winter mercato.

    1. As far as i remember, most of us didn’t want Morata. Stop showing as if we missed out on Haaland or Kane, especially when we called him mediocre and average player once.

      1. I didn’t say he was Haaland or Kane. How u arrive at that conclusion?? Morata is having his best season btw. All I’m saying it’s ironic that all our missed targets somehow are doing great but we’re stuck with Jovic who hasn’t really got going 🤷‍♂️

        1. I interpreted it that way, based on your comment. Not saying that you meant that. But Jovic wasn’t our first choice target, the management had to sign him on deadline day.🗿

          1. Yea that sucked alot. We really should have sorted out what we were doing with Colombo.. monumental muck up by management. But tbh now that we have him all I can do is support him 😁
PS most.of the times I’m light hearted. I think my avatar doesn’t help 😂

    2. All those strikers would have struggled to score at Milan.
Thuram would have looked like Origi if he was playing at Milan. What Milan player has scored over 10 goals last 5 years? If you take away the penalties neither Zlatan nor Giroud have 10 goals.
Only leao scored barely over 10 goals without penalties, but his goals are all on the counter attack.
As I said the other day, even if Milan gets Haaland, he would have hard time scoring with the way Milan plays . 40 year old Ibra and 37 year old Giroud can still score 20 goals easy on a team if they get service, the problem is Milan strikers rarely are getting service and scoring opportunities.
I know that everyone wants to pile on Jovic, but the man was signed on the last day of the mercato, missing all of pre season with the season already under way. He has only played 200 minutes with zero continuity. You need time to get used to new team and teammates, takes time to get in sync with the rest of the forwards. Does be get that time from Pioli, NOPE. He is getting the same treatment from Pioli as Origi did. Playing him few minutes here and there or when he actually started him and the whole team played like trash, be would also take out origi at half like he did jovic vs Udinese.
Milan should absolutely NOT make a big money striker signing until they get a better coach. It would be wasted money and probably stunting the career of that striker if they do that while Pioli is still there.

      1. I mostly agree with you. I only think that some of the strikers that we miss on like Thuram, Scamacca and Retegui could have still done a bit better than what we have. All of them are capable at playing as a lone striker.

      2. I get what you’re saying Z. But the fault is with management securing a deal on the last day when they should have figured out the issues before hand. But Jovic vs Udinese for me wasnt the worst player for sure. But it’s like Origi all over again, someone to blame (and I wasn’t blaming him directly, just found it ironic and funny that everyone else we’re linked with are doing mostly well). And like u said it takes time but he’s in a club that doesn’t have time.

The other issue is like u said….playing our players. And I still have that problem with Pioli. He failed to for instance blood another DM to replace Krunic, proceeded to run Krunic to injury because of overplaying and then forced to play a new player in that role when really he could have slowly made them come up to speed. RLC also got injujred because of that. Otherwise we wouldn’t have seen Musah. Reinjders is next on the potential injury list.

        1. Management absolutely messed up the striker signing this summer. They bet on Taremi but fumbled his signing by talking to the wrong agent. That’s why I said Milan needs another experienced, qualified and well connected director to work with Moncada and Furlani.
When it comes to Jovic, he was a last resort signing. Milan could have signed jovic in June but they didn’t want him. They wanted other strikers. First Thuram, then Scamacca and Morata and then Taremi. Even after they missed on Taremi on thei last day of the mercato, Milan tried to sign at least 5 other strikers before going to Jovic. They tried to sign Daka but they didn’t have enough time to get the paperwork done, then it was the Betis striker Jese, then it was Rafa Mir and En Nesyri from Seville. They also tried to get Jonathan David ( Thank God they failed). They tried all those strikers on the last day before they settled on jovic.

          1. They also should have known that they needed a striker after Colombo wanted out smh 🤦‍♂️ that was the last they messed up

  1. We don’t need Morata…. such an afwul and overrated player, same as Jovic. What kind of blind man did see talent in Jovic…??? Please sell him in the winter of upcoming summer. Noth worth to play in Milan kit.

  2. If there’s a striker that I’m sad that we missed out on, it would be Scammacca and probably Thuram. Scammacca has good technical ability in tight spaces (considering how serie A teams defend in mid blocks or low blocks). We all saw Morata in juventus, we really don’t need him.
