CM: Napoli believe Musah is perfect for Conte – Milan send ‘clear and precise signal’

By Oliver Fisher -

Antonio Conte believes that Yunus Musah would be a perfect fit for Napoli, a report claims, but AC Milan have set a firm stance.

As Calciomercato.com report, Musah has ‘won everyone over’ at Milan with his ‘contagious smile’. He is an exemplary professional who has done everything for the team role-wise and now enjoys the total trust of the club and management.

Having arrived last summer for €20m from Valencia, he made 30 appearances in Serie A last season and this drew attention from Napoli, who believe he would be ideal for Conte’s style of play due to his dynamic and intensity plus his versatility.

However, Milan consider Musah to be ‘absolutely non-transferable’ and they are even ready to resists ‘economically advantageous temptations’. He will not even be sold for figures ‘much higher than the purchase price’ which is a ‘strong, clear and precise signal’ that can only please the player.

The belief that resonates at Casa Milan is that they have a strong player in the team with great room for improvement. Musah will also be central to Paulo Fonseca’s plans, who can’t wait to have him available.

When will he joined up with his team-mates and new coach? Starting from the first days of the USA tour, before the first friendly against Manchester City which is being played in New York.

  1. It’s okay to admit they got this one wrong, they should take whatever they can for this poor man’s Weston McKennie.

    1. Couldn’t disagree more. Musah has loads of potential at 20 years old. Additionally, would rather have him play a bit part from the bench than give a direct rival a player they think is “perfect” for their new coach. That’s just dumb.

      1. 22 years old, only time will tell you, though nothing impressive coming out of him, 3 Caoches Valencia-Milan-USA, even in his poor national team, he is a bench player.

    2. The fact that you don’t see any talent in this player is concerning… There’s a lot there to work with and develop. A LOT.

He needs consistency and a coach for longer than a season. He went through how many coaches in Spain? Like 4-5?

      1. A lot to develop yeah he’s very raw and at this age it’s a shame to have such a poor football IQ. This guy has been useless last season and now there’s some hype around him since the beginning of the week. I agree that he should stay one more year but he has a lot of work ahead of him. He’s been the Vranckx of last season and only had plenty of playing time because the management invested a lot on him.

        1. Useless in what way? You mean he was forced to play in five different positions so he never got settled? Go support some other team

        2. Bart with another bad take. He was very useful, and played a lot of valuable minutes unlike Vranckx who could never get on the pitch except for maybe 3 games. Musah had some problems but most of them were due to the fact that he is a young kid who was asked to play a different role almost every time Pioli put him out there. Some consistency would do him good.

        3. B, I like you. Except for when you say things like “He’s been the Vranckx of last season…” LOL!!!

Pioli has fielded him in every conceivable position last season instead of keeping him in midfield and letting him make mistakes and develop.

Give this kid time. I’m telling you, he’s a better Kessie in the making.

          1. Musah obviously played so much because the clowns spent 20M€ on him. Vranckx was on loan so if Pioli didn’t want to use him, he didn’t have to. I think after developing Kessié, Bennacer or Tonali, Pioli knows a good midfielder when he sees one. Musah is a right winger, his best moments came in the right wing. That’s why Pioli tries him at different positions but he brings nothing as a midfielder with his terrible football IQ. Only athleticism and that’s not enough to play high level football. Now I hope he’ll prove me wrong.

Fans expectations are low these days, I wonder what we would say if we had a guy like Gundogan or Milinkovic-Savic in the team instead of all these average midfielders.

      2. There’s definitely potential there, but let’s not get carried awat. We need to give him one or two more seasons to see if he can develop into a worload monster in defense

      3. I had this on another post

It’s pretty comical to read some of the posts on here regarding Musah – that we should give him time, he’s young, he’s raw and just needs better coaching lol

Now all valid points and I don’t necessarily disagree – patience, time etc…..However, when those same fans are asked about a player like Thiaw/Adil (or going back CDK for that matter) it’s the complete opposite: he’s trash; sell immediately; and are not willing to give him the SAME luxury of time and patience that they are suddenly giving Musah – who has shown much much LESS in the time on the pitch (compared to Thiaw/Adil) he has been given and is very very RAW. Musah also cost a whopping 20M – Thiaw and Adil each cost 8M. 20M for a BACKUP RAW player was a mistake. That is a huge fee to pay for a player with a LOT of growing to do and who nobody else wanted.

Now I like Musah he works hard – BUT assuming we sign Fofana (or another cheaper DM) – where exactly will he play? Reinjders is a lock and Fofana would be as well. If we play w double pivot he’s a back up. If we play 3 across maybe he plays (if we sell Benny) – but then that means that 2 out of the 3 Pulisic/RLC/Chuk – sits – for Musah? If we are brining Chuk off the BENCH again – that makes him a huge BUST and Moncada should be canned for blowing 30M on a backup to go along w 20M on Musah – a back up (Sound familiar Gerry?) So ya I don’t see that happening. So 20M for an expensive a RAW backup is bad business.

The fact is we only purchased Musah and overpaid for him – because he is American and we want to market to the American audience. He cost the same as Pulisic which is hilarious because Pulisic is actually good and Musah isn’t right now at all and we weren’t bidding against anyone to get him.

So if we can recoup that $ an invest elsewhere it would be wise.

        1. Chelsea offered 35M and arsenal 30M for him 6 months before the signing…Forest offered 25M in the window, inter offered the same 20…he could be sold for a profit today…nothing written here makes sense…they can make money on his signing today if they wanted as they probably could have after tonali’s first year which was far worse…musah is not famous in the US, he grew up in Italy before moving to arsenal.

    3. This comment tells me you should watch American football instead of this… because you have no idea what you’re talking about

    4. Well since most transfers end in failure not only should we admit we got this one wrong, we should acknowledge the huge gamble we take with each transfer.

We could’ve had the same midfield for the last 3 seasons (not including that mercenary Kessie) but we couldn’t keep our focus.

  2. Musah has lots of potential. He’s 20 years old and has shown great qualities.. In time I can see him becoming a regular starter. His physique reminds me a lot of Kessie but musah is faster. Keep.

  3. Love this guy so much work ethic dribbling on an other level, speed crazy. Only thing he can improve is passing and finishing as I think he’s not a defensive player for the most part. Keep him 100 Prozent. Would not let him go for 40 mil

  4. I would not hesitate to sell him. Juve bought Thuram for the same price we bought Musa. The difference is that Thuram is a very established midfielder with monster physique who can pass and strike well. Musa, on the other hand, is still raw talent. His passing is terrible and he loses the ball under pressure. He thinks he’s Ronaldinho and dribble in the defensive midfield position. Which tells you a lot about the clowns running the club

  5. People watching Euros, now believe that if the player is young they should at least be on Yamal/N.Williams level… Adli and Musah need time to develop, playing 4-5 different positions under 20 different systems don’t help them grow… it’s sad that Pioli revived so many of our players in season 1 and afterwards had less and less every other season since…

  6. If Fonseca has a role for him in mind, keep him. If not and Napoli wants to pay 40m for him, sell. Don’t keep him if he’s not going to play plenty.

I think he does a ton of good things and he’s best as a “defensive 8” positioned further up the field where his job is to disrupt like Kante and dribble like Kova. His passing isn’t fast enough and passing range is poor. And his defensive positioning isn’t great — he gets lost sometimes. But he’s the best 1v1 defender in our midfield right now and one of the best dribblers.

If we go to a higher energy pressing style, we’ll need the legs in midfield and need to rotate heavily during the busy parts of the season, and he’ll be perfect for that style.

    1. If napoli were paying anywhere near 40mn for Musah, then let’s counter that with 40mn+ Musah for Osimhen.

      Yeah I know …

  7. If Conte see him as good midfielder then dont sell him to napoli below 50m euro . YM still have many years to develop , he have good physical ,technique ,drible ,pace . Just need consistently position

  8. People forget he’s in a similar position to Kessie when we signed him, extremely raw and far from the finished product, but yeah, here’s a bunch of football “experts” here that know less than nothing and have even less football heritage to speak off. What kind of fans are we attracting these days, Manchester United level toxic rubbish people.

    1. So you’re the only “expert” around here with a valid opinion? You all need to stop with the Kessié comparison. Kessié was already a strong Serie A player. He knew how to make a pass and how to defend. Musah is a fcking right winger turned midfielder turned headless chicken. You never played football in your life if you think that being fast is enough to be a football player.

      1. Musah is not a winger…Gattuso is the one who said that musah will be better than kessie and he coached them both and played them in the same position. But what does Gattuso know about midfielders…

  9. Loan him to Napoli without options to buy. If Conte give him more space , he developt much more then with us. I think this seasson he will not to play many games becaus of our midfield… Bennacer, Adli, Reijnders, (maybe Fofana) Pobega + definitely few Boys from Milan futuro… if they don’t sell some of those players, I don’t think he will have 30 games this seasson ( or like substitute on last15 min of game)

    1. I think Bennacer will be sold. Adli will be sold if a team will pay 8M. Reijnders will play as a 10 and musah and fofana in the pivot (or musah and robiot)…
