CM: Napoli pick out replacement as Milan retain interest in unhappy €35m star

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still interested in the idea of a move for Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret if Gianluigi Donnarumma were to leave, a report claims.

The future of the Rossoneri No.99 is once again at a crossroads as his deal expires in 2021, meaning Milan must either agree a renewal or sell this summer, so as to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer in just over a year.

One of the possible replacements who has been repeatedly linked is Alex Meret of Napoli, who has fallen behind David Ospina in the packing order under Gennaro Gattuso.

According to Calciomercato.com, Meret desperately wants to play for Italy at the 2021 European Championships and the Partenopei know that if he demands an exit, they cannot stand in his way.

As a result, they are looking at Brescia goalkeeper Jesse Joronen as his possible replacement, while Meret remains a target for Milan should Donnarumma leave in the upcoming window.

Juan Musso of Udinese remains the preferred profile in this sense, but if the opportunity arises from Naples, Meret could return to fashion and climb the list of the Diavolo.

Meret cost Napoli €35m when he signed from Udinese two years ago, as per Wikipedia, and the 23-year-old is contracted to Napoli until 2023.
