CM: ‘New Osimhen’ is one of many strikers on Milan’s shopping list

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are on the hunt for a new striker and one of the possible names is a Nigerian striker who is being compared to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, Gift Orban is one of multiple strikers that Milan could make a move for over the next year.

It is known that the Rossoneri would like to sign a new striker at the end of this season who could potentially replace Olivier Giroud.

Along with Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Lille’s Jonathan David, Orban is attracting attention for his performances with Belgian side Gent.

He has got six goals in 14 games across the Belgian top flight and the Europa Conference League and that has led to many comparing him to Osimhen, a fellow Nigerian striker.

Born in 2002, there is still plenty of time for Orban to develop and there will be plenty of teams looking to sign him.

    1. We certainly shouldn’t be spending big on players from that league.
eg don’t spend 30m on a 21yo who has only played in Belgian league.
Better to spend 5-10m on a 18 or 19yo from Belgium who has “potential”

    1. I may not agree with the “New Osimhen” on the headline, but does the hight matter?
      Lautaro
      Mbappe
      Aguero
Think about the names and their heights.

      1. It very much does matter.
None of those would do well at milan playing ST.
So yeah, better a striker closer to 190cm than a short stick. One of the reasons David doesn’t impress me

          1. reality check time.
I said as a ST. And that is true. Mbappe would do fine. On the lw, as a lone st, nope.
And then we have Lautaro ofc. Same stuff. He does well in a tandem. At Milan as a lone striker he would have trouble fighting 2 cbs all the time.
So unless we change the gameplay to suit those players they wouldnt do as good as they do where they at atm.. ill stand by that until it happens and they prove me wrong

        1. With how much Attention Leao and Pulisic get, they’d be fine. Even though we run a 4-3-3, the wingers invert quite a bit. Any athletic striker with talent would thrive here

          1. gotta be honest. this one smells like another giancarlo alt.. dude is totally out of it got 3-4 active names on here even talking to himself

          2. This is the only name I use… my assumption is more people disagree with you than agree so that’s your way of rationalizing it in your head.

      2. In Serie A there is a clear profile for strikers who score goals consistently and it doesn’t include these quick small strikers playing as lone 9s.

Lautaro proves this point because he has been playing as a second striker alongside mountainous #9s in Lukaku and Dzecko. The big boys absorb the physical heat applied by the centre backs and create the space and chaos for Lautaro to do his thing – and Lautaro is an exceptional player in that system.

People want to know why Lautaro had a bad world cup. Sure his form may have dipped but it was also the case that he was playing as a lone 9 in the biggest tournament of all (meaning that the defensive tactics are usually the deciding factor).

Mbappe virtually proves the point, too. I am largely dismissive of what happens in the French league as anything more than a stepping stone to the big leagues.

Obviously, that is not to say Mbappe is not a superstar. He is and that’s because he has proven himself in World Cups which can be incredibly difficult to score in, not because has has battered League 1. But even then when playing for France he is playing off Benzima and Giroud as a winger.

I am not denigrating small players. Most of the best players of all time are basically midgets compared to the modern #9 in Italy. The best players of all time are also hardly a reliable indicator or guideline.

Most significantly, we are not going to be reverting playing 2 up front any time soon. Giroud is well past his use-by date.

We need to sign a big, powerful 9 who can occupy CBs by himself as that’s what makes the wingers more effective.

      1. Wait, did you just carry over feelings from the other article I commented on ? Hahaha 😂 bro really?
See comment below. Basically if we’ve invested solid money into a solid striker then we’d be ok

      1. ??? What?

I asumming here, you mean we dont have money
Well it’s an investment and a sound one instead of trying out a bunch of $20m strikers that don’t work out year after year. Oshi is a guarantee and is suited to our football (tall, target man striker)

    1. Napoli president ADL the white hair wont allow their striker go to rival serie A unless for 100m euro ++ offer . I dont think ACM will invest more than 40m euro for next summer for one striker

      1. Yep that’s the exact dilemma. That’s the investment in more or less certainty (which very few strikers can give ) and investment in uncertainty. How many other positions do we really need to fix? We’re pretty set in almost all positions. We can also sell one or two of our gems again to reduce the effective price (maybe Tomori,.Kalulu or Thiaw and Mike – easy 80-100m)

        1. Let’s be real for a second. If Osimehn leaves Napoli it will be for minimum 150m
He will have his choice of club – Madrid, PSG, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man utd etc
He will also be offered salaries waay beyond our maximum cap, probably double.

So whatever about selling off our best players, we cannot compete for him.
I’d say he goes to Madrid as they need him and he could be the final piece needed in their new team

          1. Nah, he can go for less than 150m.
100 plus bonuses might be able to prise him away. Perfect striker for us. Or gamble on David for 20m or whichever 20m striker. Oshimen is a leap in quality.

    1. Should have gotten Boniface in the summer. Osimhen is a more natural striker but Boniface is the better technician. Leverkeusen going to ask an arm and a leg for him now

  1. Yes height does matter ,but this season we have no worries as we have Olivier Giroud…stop panicking..
This man will still do the buisiness for us this season ..
His ability inside and around the 18 yard area is second to none , even at his age 37 years ..
This season we will win the scuddeto…
Stop moaning and be happy 😊 about this ..
I have told you so many times ..start believing…
Great signings we have made this season ,especially pulisic and Loftus cheek ..With have an amazing defence, the form of Tomori has been outstanding.
Whilst we have pulisic ,Rafeol leao ,and Giroud..We will score goals …Yes start believing.

      1. I see writing on the wall for Olivier also .
The writing that Olivier Giroud helps AC Milan win the scuddeto this season ,..perhaps the top headlines all around the world …The man is a proven winner ..

    1. It’s time for Olivier to move to a bench/Locker room role. He’s slow, has a poor first touch and unless it’s a pk, he’s not likely to score. We need a change. He should stay with Milan as a veteran presence but he’s not the answer.

  2. I think Orban will be World quality player at future, so he xan join World Class club like Barcelona, Liverpool, Totrenham , so he could join from these great clubs in future, I adivce Orban to join from these clubs.

        1. Well we need a player that can be starter immediately after he came… that’s the whole point. That’s what a marquee signing is. Not someone who is raw lump of talent that will be ready in 2-3 years, but someone that will be automatic starter, ready to score >20goals in his first season.

        2. based on what did you make that assumption?
I’m just gonna add I think Milan should buy Pavlidis. Possibly low fee and seems like a class player. Can use both feet and would link up with Rafa very well.
For future refrence when you wanna make assumptions about me

        1. are you joking? Newcastle paid 70M for him last summer.
Does Milan have 70M, even tho newcastle would ask for 100M+ now, for him?
If Milan can cash out (and they cant) might as well go for Osimhen

      1. 3 goals in 5 games. 21 goals last year. but yes, not in the Price range. 30M was a great get. Arsenal really wanted 50 from Inter (academy guy like musah, isma).

I’m sure someone like him is the goal, both young and proven but realistically those are 50-100M. A lot hangs on the next 11 games, champions league and challenging league games. if things go well I would assume management would be more open to someone over 23 as winning ups the value of everyone.

Height to me is only important in that it correlates with strength and having a deep target to play off would be useful.

  3. Osimhen comes from the Belgian first league. Or at least had his breaktrough year there. Other players that started in the Belgian first league include De Bruyne, Kompany, Lukaku, Malinovskyj, Doku, … You just have to buy the right players and give them space to develop. Not like what Pioli did with De Ketelaere.

  4. Boniface was in Belgium and people want to exclude Belgium league smh Orban is the next big thing he works hard and they aren’t many good 1,90 cm strikers also osihmen would cost 100 m + sesko 60m+ Santiago gimenez I do agree but David has the numbers and Orban could become something special
