CM: Nine players to return after loan spells – Milan’s plan for each

By Oliver Fisher -

As we come towards the end of the season there are a number of loan players that AC Milan are gearing up to welcome back, a report has highlighted.

According to Calciomercato.com, the exception is Rade Krunic who will join Fenerbahce on a permanent deal for around €3m because the conditions of the obligation to buy clause have been met.

Divock Origi: His return to the Premier League was a flop. Nottingham Forest stayed up but he played just 754 minutes scoring zero goals in the league and one in the FA Cup against Bristol City. In June he will return to Milan, with whom he has a contract until 2026 worth €4m net per season.

Fode Ballo-Toure: The 27-year-old Senegalese full-back played just eight times at Fulham, with 224 minutes accrued and just two starts. He hasn’t played for months and will return to Milan, with whom he has a contract expiring in 2025.

Marko Lazetic: The Serbian striker continues to fail to take advantage of loan opportunities. After the disappointing spell in Austria at Altach, he also did badly in the Netherlands at Fortuna Sittard, where he only played nine times, for a total of 176 minutes and no goals. His deal at Milan runs until 2026.

Marco Pellegrino: The 21-year-old Argentine defender was loaned to Salernitana, with whom he played nine times in Serie A, but they suffered relegation. He will return to Milan, with whom he has a contract until 2028.

Daniel Maldini: First loaned Empoli, then to Monza, the attacking midfielder has played 18 times in Serie A this year, scoring four goals. Galliani wants him permanently for around €4m, with little chance of seeing him back with the Rossoneri in the summer.

Chaka Traore: The Ivorian was sent to Palermo on loan in January and has made 10 appearances. A play-off semi-final against Venezia awaits as the Rosanero look to seal promotion back to Serie A. In June he will return to Milan, who have not decided on his future.

Lorenzo Colombo: He was loaned to Monza and was a starter there initially but has lost his way, despite four goals in 25 appearances. He has a contract with Milan until 2028, and barring any surprises he will be loaned out again.

Devis Vasquez: The 26-year-old Colombian goalkeeper spent six months on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, and the last four at Ascoli, who did not avoid relegation to Serie C. His contract expires with Milan in 2026.

Marco Nasti: The 20-year-old striker is fighting to stay in Serie B with Bari. In the first leg of the play-off match he scored a goal against Ternana, his tally so far is seven goals in 37 games. His contact with Milan expires in 2026.

    1. You pay him a large sum of what he’s owed to leave. Paying him 5-6m to leave by mutual consent and then he can negotiate somewhere else to make the rest of the salary back. Milan trying to get money for him is crazy, we didn’t even pay anything in the first place.

He’s entitled to do what he wants to though – it’s the club who have told him to sit on his backside, he’s always been willing to play and contribute. Don’t fault the player for the deal Milan offered him.

Massive lack of success in all those loan spells though, that doesn’t bode well. I guess a lot of those players will be in U23 if we get that side though.

  1. What about Romero, CDK, and Salea? CDK and Salae a for sure sell?

Also, it seems like none of the listed loaned players had good loan spells. All did either terribly or just ok.

Honestly, only Maldini, and Nasti, maybe Chaka Traore, did ok.

I’d say keep those 3 and sell the rest.

    1. Am I posting too quickly?

CDK & Salad have already had options executed if I have read things right.

Not sure about Romero, good call out!

  2. Sell each and every one of them.
They are all loaned out to a bum a*s teams and neither 1 of them is getting regular minutes let alone being a starter.
People keep mentioning Daniel Maldini being a good prospect. He will be 23 when the season starts and he can’t even be a starter at Monza, after he couldn’t be a starter at Empoli, but Milan should keep him because his last name says he will be a good player. Take the 4 mil.
Maybe bring Nasti to be the 3rd choice striker and fill the homegrown quota.
    Sell the bodybuilder.
Chaka is coming back after people were losing their minds when he was loaned out with option to buy.

    1. none want to buy useless players (esp origi) not even free (big salary) & if we release them, we still have to pay their salary for the agreed contract duration.

  3. Origi: find a way to offload him. It is really unlikely he will play again with us and his loan in Nottingham did nothing to improve his shape and performance. Maybe loan him again to a club willing to pay his wage until his contract expires.
Ballo-Touré: Ideally sell him or loan with option to buy. Otherwise just a way to offload him.
    Lazetic: Sell or loan
    Pellegrino: Loan
Maldini: try to sell him for 5M or a bit more, since Monza is willing to get him.
Traoré: maybe loan him again, but dry loan with no option to buy, or buy-back option for us.
    Colombo: Sell or loan.

    Traoré:

  4. Sell them all, and dont mess around demanding fees that are too high. Except Traore who will be a good player, and Maldini, yes…. just because of his name. Whether he will want to stay is another matter.

On a similar note, who signed all these awful players? Maybe thats why a change of Directors was needed.
