CM: No decision has been made on Pioli’s future – what the head coach wants

There continues to be a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Stefano Pioli as AC Milan’s head coach, but the club have reportedly not yet made a decision.

Calciomercato.com recall that Milan went out in the Champions League group stage, were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia by Atalanta and they are well behind in the Scudetto race.

Milan are currently 13 points above fifth place and a top four finish is the bare minimum, while a Europa League campaign awaits which starts one week on Wednesday against Rennes in a two-legged play-off tie.

When the season is done evaluations will happen and decisions will be made regarding Pioli. The current manager expressed his desire after last night’s win against Frosinone.

“The important thing is to be focused on the present. This is what prepares us for the future. These things don’t touch me, I repeat. There is a club that evaluates the job at the end of the year. I’m fine at Milan, I’ve said it from day one. Then we’ll see,” he said.

The former Inter and Fiorentina coach wants to stay at the Rossoneri, he would like to renew or at least respect his deal expiring in 2025 which was extended back in October 2022, worth €4m net plus bonuses per year.

What filters from the club is that no decision has been made just yet. It is no coincidence that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, RedBird’s Senior Advisor, was quick to be a firefighter as he said: “Pioli is our coach and we are happy with him.”

The farewell of Pioli, who has been with the Rossoneri since 10 October 2019 when he arrived at the Rossoneri to replace Marco Giampaolo, is still a credible hypothesis.

However, as long as Milan is in the running for the first four places or for the UEL final in Dublin there will be no updates. Cardinale’s hope is to speak at the end of May, but for obvious reasons his decision could come sooner.
