CM: Okafor and Chukwueze revive Milan’s attack – how Pioli will use them

Paolo Scaroni joked earlier this month that AC Milan could not keep up the pace of one new signing per week, but it seems they are now moving at a faster pace.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Stefano Pioli decided to switch to a 4-3-3 formation which will place more emphasis on the wingers, and while Olivier Giroud will remain everything will change around him.

The latest to join in chronological order will be Noah Okafor, who is more of a support striker than a natural centre-forward. He is adept at playing alongside another striker, but also at playing wide too having scored 10 goals last season.

He will be a deputy to Giroud but also a useful player when it comes to giving Rafael Leao some breathing space in times when rotation is needed, something Christian Pulisic can of course help with too.

Ultimately, the investment for a coveted No.9 has been postponed because Giroud still gives guarantees and the club have opted not for a substitute with the same characteristics as him, but for a complimentary profile.

Then, Samuel Chukwueze will also arrive, to help spread the threat of the attack to both flanks. The Villarreal star has skills, tendencies and ideas similar to that of the Portuguese, while Pulisic too looks like he can play on either wing or even as an attacking midfielder when the situatiion dictates.

The idea for Pioli is that Milan will line up with various ways of attacking and defending. The athleticism of the forwards means they are ready to press and attack, capitalising on high turnovers and being able to rely on an attack that is no longer one-sided.

  1. Poor Cardinale. He won’t be getting his pockets full of Tonali-money like some guys here predicted. Such a shame. Poor, poor Gerry. 🙁

    1. Wow all these comments about how better the management is these days, you told us so, etc. A lot of excitation, it’s like you won the world cup here. Bravi!

Nothing has changed yet. Yeah they deserve credit for the quick job, now we are just stockpiling unproven players. I’m not sold on this FUT style market a la Leonardo/Mirabelli, I need to see if it’s really better on the pitch.

      1. Last season,we wasted alot of time waiting on Sanchez, while Botman waited forever and eventually went to Newcastle… We got CDK who is like a shawdow of himself and doesn’t even feel motivated to play for his paay check…we have seen this guy’s play in their previous teams and some have played against us,which they dominated us…we played against Okafor and Reuben last season in Europe and they came good against us, so the excitation in the comment season is worth it at least still they prove otherwise like our Dummy Belgian blonde Barbie man.

      2. Based on your bitter comment you were (and are) one of those guys. 😀 😀 😀

I told you so? Nope. I’m not gloating about anything I’ve said. It’s just that you doom&gloom mongers (or whiners actually) are just so hilarious. 😀

Why was my “wait and see how the mercato goes” ass-kissing the Americans but your “wait and see how poor all the signings actually are” different from your views? Oh right, I’m actually trying to be positive and supportive of the team I love. You? I have no f*cking clue why you guys only bitch and whine about everything. Not is ever good for you guys. It’s like you’re hating the club or just trolling. 😀

        1. Daaamn… some of the text got f’ed up…

          Was supposed to say:

Why was my “wait and see how the mercato goes” ass-kissing the Americans but your “wait and see how poor all the signings actually turn out to be” considered as the “proper” response?

Can’t remember what the second part of the text was that ended with the “different from your views?” but who gives a **** anyway. 😀

        2. My friend, you probably just discovered social media and the Internet, where everybody is free to share his own opinion. Maybe you don’t know that people don’t have the same values, the same feelings, etc., especially here where fans from around the world comment. For my part, I don’t like this football-business, maybe I’m too old for this sht. I will continue to support Milan as I always did, but I’m not thrilled by the business-first approach and this moneyball thing. Now enjoy your hilarity, you’re just dancing before the music starts.

        3. I’m with you. First they said “Fk Cardinale he’s not going to spend any money he just wants to make $$$ for himself.”
We said “Let’s wait and see what happens.”
Now they’re saying “Okay maybe he is spending money, but we don’t like the players, so let’s wait and see what happens.” Right…….

Still bitter and angry about Maldini and Tonali I guess. Who knows?

          1. Even if we won the 20th scudetto and made it to the UCL-final they’d still find pleeeeeenty to bitch and whine about. 😀

          2. Well he hasn’t spent additional money yet really. We reinvested the money we received from the Tonali sale. That covered RLC, Reinjders and Pulsic. The 35M transfer budget is covering Chukwueze and Okafor. Romero and Sportiello are free. So right now we are kinda even perhaps slightly over. Now if we add Musah and Singo then we are over budget but that should be offset with sales of Rebic Origi etc…hopefully.

What it really comes down to a difference of Transfer strategy and team building. The Old management wanted to build on the existing core by adding experienced players (SMS, Berardi, etc…) and this new management instead sold a key asset and used that $$ to provide more depth and potentially more talent. We will see what path was the better one after this season. Too early to tell now but there is optimism. Why?? Because when you finally SPEND $$$ good things can happen in football lol. Very simple.

Since everyone is saying this mercato is amazing (personally I think it’s solid – would have loved a true #9 but looks like we will save that for next summer) and better than last year – Less than a UCL semi final berth and a top 3 finish should be considered a failure then. We have no excuses. Pioli has selected the players he wanted apparently. I hope he is correct. But the time to celebrate or not is after this season. I do think we will be an exciting team to watch and if these lads can stay healthy we can compete for the Scudetto and make a deep UCL run.

      3. Wow… can the Rossineri fans get excited for change? I don’t understand the negative comments from these supposed Milan fans. Obviously they have to prove themselves, and obviously Pioli needs to get results to see if these new players work out. But damn… let’s get excited for this new season in which our team is trying to build a competitive team for once. They complain when we don’t reinforce, like all of last year, and when they do buy players they complain that they’re unproven garbage players without seeing them play under Pioli. Make up your damn mind or pick another club to follow.

    2. You forgot comment from all expert in this site : i know what gery intention, he use tonali money invest on F1 team . Like you said before BB , it seems super expert commentator here know gery better than know their own father🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I forgot their nickname .

  2. Stefano Pioli I disagree with this formation method 4-3-3 i prefer the 4-2-3-1 is far better because if we don’t sign Lindstrom then we use saelermakers and chukwueze on the right wing then pulisic and Romero on the No 10 please Stefano Pioli observe the tactical analysis to avoid further mistakes if you want to sign musah no problem but understand the analysis well

  3. I’m not keeping up with who Juventus Inter Napoli are buying- anyone know what the competition’s up to because we seem to be on another level right now.

    1. Who cares about whoever they signs, all am about is having a good pre season and hit the ground running even before the league starts

    2. Yeah, and what should Inter do? Buy someone to play instead of Barella, or who? 😀 Be serious, their team is already superior as visible in the previous CL and they already signed 2 first team players + 4 good backups… Napoli, I think they will sign only to replace sold players. Only Kim left. Juventus is out of CL so they aren’t really attractive to better players at the moment…Milan was the only team that needed 3 starting midfielders…

      1. We’ll see how these signings do in the end. I think Musah is a top talent, hope he is signed, and Okafor and Chukwueze, but I think others are mediocre. I expect the midfield to be a hole without a proper defensive player.

        1. Shhhh Martin shhh. You’ll get the hate piled on. If they get Musah then the offense will work better because u have an actual defender in midfield. Other, same issue as before but with newer players. So far, we’ve been buying top heavy

          1. Like I give a F about what anyone else thinks. People here act like they need to be in a group and belong. It is a F’in Milan fan/news site with comments.

        2. Martin again with his Martin-glasses

No, Pulisic Reijnders are top signings as well.
          RLC more of a bet

It will be a great window to get these 6 in, while losing only Tonalli

        3. Your meltdowns are epic. Others are mediocre cause you say so lollll… you have never seen Reijnders play. And I doubt you have ever seen Musah player either.

          1. Martin doesn’t need to see anyone play to know how good/bad they are. He knows everything! He’s like the Chuck Norris of football.

  4. Milan is actually acting smartly on the transfer window…M & M wouldn’t have sacrificed Tonalli for this upgrade, but Furlani alongside Mocanda and Poili are doing an extra ordinary job with a budget under 100m to strengthen the club with much depth…Now Musah and we are good to go for the upcoming season…Forza Milan

    1. Calafiori is a really versatile promising player. Musah I think will happen. Don’t think Singo is coming.

  5. I think milan is going to be a better team than last year the signing is good but we need a top striker a young guy to help girou okofar Chukwueze Musah will make milan more stronger,so poili has to make a good team,I am very happy, let us support our wonderfull player, let’s be positive, milan is our team, milan will fight for the students, champions league, let us give them our support, the team I love and the team I will love forever, all my bleesing for milan, milan forever,God bless milan.

  6. Whether it works out or not, this team is better than we had last season, have we all forgoten the trauma of last season, when cdk origi rebic and salaemakers/messias were our super subs to unlock difficult games, the management couldnt have done anything better so quickly, maybe its right for directors to be less sentimental, less emotional, those should be the feelings of the fans, maybe directors should be more rational, that is healthy for the club

  7. Ppl wanna be on one side or the other here when really you shouldn’t be either yet. Yes we’ve brought in a good amount of signings, but that’s likely d9wn partially to how bad the owners were getting crucified for everything they did prior, and now they HAD to try and prove they were doing something. Now we wait and see how many truly make a difference. Things look positive but way too early to say good or bad

    1. Its not their job to get the result… Its coaching staff part… One thing we can said they are doing their job good if not perfect… Now its up to Pioli and his team to bring result qmwith this squad…

  8. On the contrary I think this is Milan, or Furlani idea from the beginning : sell Tonali for record amount to expand the transfer budget and get decent quality players in multiple with reasonable price.

Redbird side is clear from the beginning : 35m budget + whatever we got from player sale. It’s up to Sporting Director to use the budget – Maldini disagree since he feels that amount is too small and want a big budget without selling any important player – while Furlani being creative and daring to sell Tonali to expand the budget.

Now we don’t talk about how the player will perform – they possibly flop first season like CDK, going strong from the start like Maignan or showed up when opportunity arrive like Thiaw – but at least on paper, we are looking stronger and more creative than last season.

Also we seemingly also progress on the stadium case too, so that explain why the transfer budget is small – the stadium project is hella expensive. So if the project really start this season that’s cherry on top for me.

    1. Yep… Because wether the players perform or not… They get result or not its coaching staff job… Not the management…

    2. It’s nice to read a logical comment like yours instead of the ones from mentally ill like martin and ted 🤣🤣🤣

    3. Can’t agree more with your opinion. Really spot on. Honestly nobody happy with Tonali’s sale. Since Milan has a strong tradition, selling a future banner man was a huge blow. But, Furlani is a pure business man and he also a Milan diehard fans. I believe his mind will be for this good sake of club first…

  9. Now ACM have 4 player with high speed . Okafor, samuel, leao and theo . This mercato more better than last season mercato in my opinion because they fix the weakness of the team but still need prove in official match . Lets see how they perform

  10. Musah, Calafiori and maybe an actual striker next. Maybe we can convince Lacazette to join a CL bound team. 🙂

  11. Giroud is best for 4231 where he has support from wingers and AMC. He doesn’t suit with 433 because the center striker need to be more mobile. Okafor is the right player as center striker in 433. So Pioli has a complete characteristic of players to deploy both 4231 and 433. Krunic will be the DMC in both formation and do the “dirty job”.

  12. With Krunic as the DMC, so basically the 433 will become more like 4123. His role is the anchorman. But Bennacer will take Krunic’s position and act as regista when he recovers. Krunic can switch to midfielder right/left center.
