CM: Pioli choosing between two solutions after Kalulu injury blow

AC Milan suffered a blow today as it was confirmed that Pierre Kalulu will be out for at least the next game against Napoli with a calf problem.

As Calciomercato.com report, Kalulu is the only Milan player to have appeared in all 38 games this season across Serie A, the Champions League, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, highlighting the importance of a man who cost just €500k to sign from Lyon.

The bad news coming from the France U21 squad is that Kalulu has suffered an injury to his right calf which will keep him out for next Sunday’s match at the Stadio Maradona against Napoli at least, with further checks in a week.

The problem cannot be rushed because the risk of relapse is high, as also demonstrated by Mike Maignan’s issue, so Milan will take precautions especially in view of the Champions League quarter-final games against the same opponent on 12 and 18 April.

There are two solutions for Pioli: either keep the three-man defence and replace Kalulu with Simon Kjaer or return to 4-2-3-1 with Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori as the centre-back pairing and captain Davide Calabria at right-back.
