CM: Pioli tells Furlani and Moncada the two roles he needs strengthening above all

The AC Milan players and staff got back together at Milanello last night and it was a chance for Stefano Pioli to take stock of ongoing negotiations with the directors.

Calciomercato.com speaks of a ‘revolutionary air’ that was felt at Milanello yesterday at the beginning of preseason, with Pioli now enjoying more responsibility and influence in the choices made when it comes to the transfer window.

During his talks with Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and the new sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio, Pioli made clear what the priorities are for the squad in his eyes, with the aim being to ‘partially overturn’ a team that struggled domestically last season.

Pioli highlighted the need for another central midfielder given how light the Rossoneri are on numbers there after Ismael Bennacer’s injury plus the exits of Sandro Tonali, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Aster Vranckx.

The main target remains Tijjani Reijnders of AZ Alkmaar but new talks are also expected for Yunus Musah of Valencia too, with the aim being to pair Ruben Loftus-Cheek with a quality midfield partner.

Then, the Milan head coach stressed the need for another centre-forward to work alongside Olivier Giroud. Mehdi Taremi is a name to watch but he is non-EU, while Gianluca Scamacca were mentioned too. Alternative tracks remain open.
