CM: How a conversation with Pioli saw Milan abandon the Kamada deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan had everything wrapped up with Daichi Kamada and appeared destined to sign him, but they decided to change strategy.

A number of different sources reported a couple of months ago that Kamada would leave Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer and join the Rossoneri on a multi-year deal, becoming one of the first signings of the summer transfer window.

According to Calciomercato.com, Kamada was very close to signing for Milan on a free transfer between the end of March and the beginning of April.

Then the sackings of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara put the negotiation on hold, which has now been completely abandoned also for tactical reasons.

Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani consulted Stefano Pioli regarding his plans in terms of system and formation, and the coach told them he doesn’t think the Japan international would be a good fit for the 4-3-3 he intends to use.

    1. He is mainly an AM, not a CM. If we switch to a 4-3-3, and especially now that we have Pulisic, CDK and Romero, it’s gonna be hard to find a place for him

      1. Kamada is 10x better than pulisic cdk and Romero. Also he can totally play as CM he just needed to do the same tactic/orders he gave to bennacer but hey they told him no because maldini had the deal done . Also he rejected BVB for us that says something so yh the management didn’t sign anyone with quality rn

          1. comparing a winger to a AM

            nice job

Pioli won a Scudetto meanwhile all you do is complain because your fav Maldini isnt here

        1. basically all players we have bought or signed has previously been rumored as potential targets for milan in recent years or months in the media while maldini also has been at the helm of the club. I think the only one that hadnt been mentioned was romero but glad we got him as that actually is a player i thought could be a deal with some potential even before we got him as his contract was expiring and he is very yong with great potential. Anyways im not saying that those players was planned back then but they have been rumored nevertheless even though i generally would question rumors.

          1. What are you talking about? Where are you getting the idea that I’m against Maldini being sacked? For the money pissed away on CDK and some of the targets linked to before he was fired and continually overlooking Italian and Serie A players, I have no issue with him being fired.

          2. MBM I didnt say you was against him getting sacked and quite frankly i dont care whether people are against it or not im just saying pretty much all the players we have gotten had also been rumored as targets while he was at the helm of the club nothing more nothing less.
I would like more italians in the club though.

        2. No he’s clearly not and if he was better than Pulisic someone would have signed him by now. Kamada is mediocre at best. So don’t even know what you’re getting at. And he would have took a non-EU option. So no Chukwueze.

    2. Stop hating on poor krunic. Pobega will come into his own in 433. He’s a mezala 101.
Kamada is unfortunately a piece Milan had to abandon for the “greater good”.

      1. I’m not even sure why people are talking about Krunic and Pobega as if they are going to be starters. It’s like we haven’t even signed anyone this summer. People are crazy.

    1. Well just consider ghost in casa milan make verbal agreement with kamada. I think it is massara, he is the only person that admire kamada

  1. Damn… everyone just has something to complain about and be toxic to each other here lol.

Market is going much better than we expected. With quick and promising signings. I had my doubts too but now I’m just going have faith in management and rate the transfers end of the season.

For now switching to our milan reddit sub! Much more positivity out there.

  2. The journalist who wrote this article just want to open old wounds, this journalist is lazy and feeds on arguments and stupid speculations, the atmosphere at milan had been improving, and someone still wants to divide the fans, we have a new management now, we are satisfied with what is happening today, we dont care anymore about what happened in the past, or how it happened, we look ahead to the new season, let the team building continue, finish it before the 1st of august, let journalists keep barking, we love milan, we love the tradition and the culture, we are obssesed of winning, we are better than inter and juve combined, we dont like journalists who sow discord

  3. 4-3-3? You gotta be kidding. Watch, Poli will revert to his old 4-2-3-1 formation. As the saying goes, a tiger will never change its spot…

      1. Krunic and Pobega will be important part of this team. Both of them were instrumental last season and Krunic is actually a reason why we even got into CL semis. Hope Pobega will be trusted more this season. He is great pkayer with lots of potential and need to develop further

  4. Well, as a fans, let’s respect Pioli, and another person in Milan. However they have given all their best for Milan.

Look at Milan now. With Pulisic, Loftus Cheek, Reijnders, Sportiello, Jimenez, Romero, and will come after Okafor, Chuk, and Musah.

It means everyone in Milan want to bring back Milan to the European Champion Team. That’s good for me.

And when I see Milan compare with Inter now, Milan is far better than Inter. Okay they have Thuram and Frattesi. But I think this season, we can beat Inter in Serie A, Coppa, and Champions League. That the important one.

    1. Here we go again…He is and his numbers tell absolutely different story. Just a little trust in a great player more minutes and development and he will be even better
