CM: One metric places Pioli as Milan’s best-ever coach – the numbers

There are a thousand different ways to judge how good a football coach actually is, and one such way is points per game.

As pointed out by Calciomercato.com, when you take a look at Stefano Pioli’s points per game record in Serie A since he became the coach of the Rossoneri, he is actually the best that there has ever been.

Some remarkable names like Fabio Capello, Carlo Ancelotti and Arrigo Sacchi have coached Milan over the years, but they cannot beat Pioli’s record of 2.13 points per game since he took over on October 9, 2019.

Only one coach, Lajos Czeizler who was in charge from 1949 to 1952, has got the same record as Pioli in that regard.

Capello and Sacchi had records of 2.01 and 1.95 respectively, whilst the legendary Nereo Rocco was on 1.89. In terms of a more modern comparison, Massimiliano Allegri’s points-per-game record at Milan was 1.81.

Pioli is seeking to back this up with another Serie A title this season. When all competitions are taken into consideration, Pioli’s points per game sits at 1.92.
