CM: Pioli wants a flexible Milan this season – clear comments and precise signings

Stefano Pioli will start his third season with AC Milan tomorrow as they will take on Sampdoria away from home. It will be necessary to start the campaign with a win as they are clear favourites in the game.

The squad has changed since the end of last season and it’s clear that the Rossoneri have a slightly different approach this time out. As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Pioli wants his team to be more flexible this season.

The signing of Olivier Giroud is a clear indication that Pioli wants to increase the options up front. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the only striker last season the Frenchman’s arrival will allow for a potential two-man attack, for example.

And when you think about flexibility, you think about Alessandro Florenzi. He can play at the back, but he can also play as a right-winger. The options, therefore, are now many for Pioli and this is indeed a positive thing.

He isn’t bound to the 4-2-3-1 formation, as seen in the friendly against Panathinaikos, and the search for a playmaker is another indication. Pioli revealed that they are not looking for Calhanoglu type, as they want one who can play on the right as well.
