CM: ‘Points count more’ – Fonseca has three games to save Milan job

For the second international break of the season, and Paulo Fonseca’s AC Milan tenure, he has three games to save his job. A tale all too familiar, and a dangerous cycle to re-enter.

After Milan’s start to the season, Fonseca was at risk. His football in pre-season had not translated to the Serie A campaign, and his position was being scrutinised. When he returned, a loss against Liverpool looked damning, and he required a miracle.

Fonseca made his own miracle though, and the Portuguese head coach saved his job with a 2-1 victory against Inter. When a victory against Lecce followed, the Rossoneri seemed to have found their feet and confidence, to the point where a 1-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen was not a worry.

It has all come crashing down after a 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina, though. Controversy took place once again, and the claims about Fonseca’s control over the team have been reignited after the penalties.

With this, Calciomercato.com states that the head coach has three games to save his job. Fonseca is ‘aware’ that points count more than play, and he requires at least seven points from the three upcoming fixtures.

The credit from the derby win has run out, and Fonseca is back on borrowed time, with possible replacements on the table.

  1. Yeah and this management will replace Fonseca with Tudor or Terzic. Exciting upgrade for sure. SMDH.

Maybe Milan need to be relegated for new ownership to come in and buy the club and appoint a proper CEO, Sporting Director and a proper coach and get rid Ibra, Furlani and Moncada. Smh

  2. I don’t just know why you people only put pressure on coaches all the time but forgot to pressure all the players playing same rubbish every season, this same thing happened last when Theo and Geroud lost 2 pk in a single match and this same dude still lost a vital pk again this season and he called himself a professional player who can’t even work on his previous errors and still have the mind playing with the fans heart by go for the pk again without a well composure and knowing he is playing against old time experience goal keeper

  3. first i wanted fonseca out but now i kinda feel bad for him he isnt any good coach but it isnt really his fault if tammy cant finish or score a penalty to save his life but he and pioli just dont got thos big balls against big names like leao and theo abraham is a mediocre player at best

  4. Three games is waiting too long. Milan is quickly turning into a mid table team under Fonseca. The second issue is the club spending too much bringing mediocre players.

  5. The lunatics are running the asylum..Zlatan talks of Lindelof who isn’t even top 4 choice in man uniteds horrendous team..Redbird who are head loons of the asylum have no intention of signing the likes of Scalvini, Ricci or any other top player who is going to make a difference. Then we have a coach who albeit seems to have a plan but has no mens or testicular fortitude to implement it to the loons running the show on the pitch…

  6. This is just stupid, I know the news needs something to talk about but Fonseca had the team playing well overall – all the underlying numbers around xG, xPts have us top. De Gea had a performance lauded as fantastic against us. Theo is a hot head and got a red card, like he’s never done that before. Gudjohnsson scored a borderline wonder goal.

People are moaning based on the results and the weaknesses and ignoring how good we are at making chances at the moment.

Fonseca’s doing a fine job so far – he has some weaknesses to iron out but all this talk of sacking him is just for idiots. Unfortunately, it’s entirely probable that some of the board are idiotic.
