CM: Unprofessionalism and demands – how the Popovic to Milan deal collapsed

By Oliver Fisher -

Matija Popovic seemed all set to join AC Milan on a free transfer from Partizan Belgrade, and yet a few days later the operation has completely collapsed.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Popovic really was one step away from becoming a new Milan player. The negotiations began two months ago and were about to reach a final agreement, before a rift with his agents arose.

The report states that the differences with the entourage of the Serbian talent are irreparable, especially given the Rossoneri management didn’t like the way the last few days went from a professionalism standpoint.

The agents first tried to put pressure on the club by having the player arrive in Milan without having agreed everything, and then they asked for unreasonably high commissions.

Popovic strongly wanted to move to Milan and the management feel ‘strong displeasure’ towards the way everything ended up working out. Geoffrey Moncada had identified the teenager as a big talent for the future with the qualities to become a top player.

Now, we can only talk about what might have been, and what remains to be seen is where Popovic ends up given that he is free to sign with another club, one willing to put up with the actions of those who represent him.
