CM: Goals and leadership – Reijnders becomes irreplaceable to Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

Tijjani Reijnders was one of the stand-out players for AC Milan during their convincing win over Monza at San Siro earlier, and he even got his first home goal for the club too.

Calciomercato.com write how Reijnders’ goal resembled Alexis Saelemaekers’ masterpiece against Napoli at the Stadio Maradona and it highlights the midfielder’s undoubted technical abilities, as well as his excellent mastery of dribbling in tight spaces.

For Reijnders – who scored his first goal in Serie A last November 11th against Lecce at the Via del Mare – it was his first at San Siro, scored right under the Curva Sud. A right-footed shot, which went under the legs of Di Gregorio.

It wasn’t just with the goal that he shone though. Today the former AZ Alkmaar man showed an excellent balance between the creative metronome that he can be but also attentiveness in the defensive phase and in build-up.

Since the start of the season, Reijnders has been the most glaring certainty that Stafano Pioli has been able to use and this also in light of his physical stamina, which allowed him to respond every time he has been called upon.

Taking a look instead at his appearances, no one is equal: he is at 22 (16 in the league and six in the Champions League), one more than Tomori who missed the derby due to disqualification. If we add to this that of these 22 appearances 21 were as a starter, with only the first match against Newcastle as a substitute, it becomes evident the importance of Reijnders in Pioli’s plans.

  1. He’s the only one who’s creative in our midfield (apart from Bennacer who just got back) and that’s why we urgently need a holding midfielder. To give Reijnders more freedom to roam and cook!

      1. Koopmeiners or Amrabat were my picks for the summer although Koopmeiners is on a whole other level. Hojbjerg is good too but quite a card collector.

          1. well. his contract is up 2025, tho they have +1 option that will no doubt be activated.

Second, we have one CDK there on loan, if they buy him they’re basically financin part of the koop deal.

3rd we can and should tempt him with EU lvl football, atalanta might miss out on it next season if they dont get their sh*** together

          2. @flyingturtle I completely forgot about CDK. If his contract ends in 2025 then why not CDK+10M? I really hope the management can do the deal, he would be a solid signing.

  2. Tijani is fantastic! He accomodate to Serie A from first minute,is extraordinary intelligent, technicaly great, read play, his mates moves, free space brilliantly….For sure one of the best in Europe in few years.Great ,incredibly good sommer transfer move for ACM!I wish we can keep him for long.Great, great potential….and is going to be even better….happy to have him on board!

  3. I love the way Reijnders moves and controls the ball he so smooth. But his dip in form can be explained by playing basically every game so far…

He needs a break, because if he gets injured because of playing too much, we will lose a lot of creativity up front.

  4. Yes he certainly need rest. U can clearly see from day 1 he have very good technical ability. If he can improve in his decision making I think he can really be top player in seria A.
