CM: Spurs beat Milan, PSG and Man City to €14m deal for Croatian teenager

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were one of the clubs that were big admirers of Luka Vušković and even held discussions with his entourage, but he is now set to sign for Spurs.

According to Calciomercato.com, Vušković will be the next signing for Spurs, who beat the competition of the big names in European football including Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Milan to bring him to north London.

The centre-back’s name was on Milan’s wish list during the time when Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were directors, and they held a meeting with his entourage last December, but the exorbitant costs stopped any type of negotiation in its tracks.

Maldini didn’t feel like holding a follow-up meeting after learning how much the operation would cost, unlike Tottenham who convinced the player and sealed an operation worth €14m plus bonuses.

That makes Vušković Hajduk’s most expensive transfer ahead of Nikola Vlasic (now at Torino) – who moved to Everton in the summer of 2017 for €10.8m – and Nikola Kalinić who was sold in 2009 to Blackburn for €7m.

It is a lot of money, but Tottenham are paying for a 16-year-old who many believe has potential to be one of the best in the world.

It is not yet clear whether Spurs will bring forward his arrival to January, and then send him out on loan, or whether they will wait. Compared to Piqué, considered stronger than Josko Gvardiol was at his age in his homeland.

  1. 3-4 years later there will be news : ACM missed young talent like they missed caicedo ,enzo, kolo muani etc . 16 years old but stronger than gvardiol ? What the heck this overhype by media . If Maldini feel this kid not worth 14m euro as CB then maybe he is right ( after all maldini success get CB cheap except tomori )
