AC Milan gave some thought to making a concrete attempt to sign Paulo Dybala as a free agent before he ended up at Roma, a report claims.
Calciomercato.com report that Inter and Milan were the two teams who showed the most interest in signing Dybala, with Nerazzurri director Beppe Marotta having already reached an agreement with the Argentine before the move was blocked by the owners, who insisted they offload players first, namely Alexis Sanchez.
Milan followed the situation with silent detachment, focusing instead in the end on Charles De Ketelaere who however cost €35m, excluding his salary. On an economic level, there is no comparison between the Dybala operation and the one that brought the Belgian talent to Milanello.
The Rossoneri management continued with the trend of their youth project and went for a player who has huge potential at the age of just 21, but Dybala would have been a certainty this season.
In the end it was Roma who emerged and made the decisive assault, giving Jose Mourinho a quality reinforcement for the attack, and he has repaid their faith so far with three goals and two assists in six league games.
