There is a lot of attention on Theo Hernandez and his AC Milan future at the moment, but there will be no decision made any time soon as per a report.
Calciomercato.com report that Theo joined France’s retreat in Clairefontaine yesterday, tired but smiling after returning from a long trip to Australia where Milan played a friendly against Roma in Perth.
The full-back immediately made himself available to Didier Deschamps without a rest, and the France coach had made it obvious what he thought of the decision from Milan to play a post-season friendly on the other side of the world.
Deschamps considers Theo an anchor of a team that are among the favourites to win the European Championship in Germany, and only after that will it be time to talk about his future, which at the moment has ‘too many question marks’.
The situation is not simple: the former Real Madrid man is asking for a salary of €8m net per season to renew his contract expiring in 2026, an amount which would make him the highest earner in the team above Rafael Leao.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City are all keen on signing Theo, and the latter even made an attempt last summer but the interest did not turn into an offer because the Frenchman stopped any type of negotiation in its tracks.
He wanted to stay at Milan, and the Rossoneri – after the farewell of Sandro Tonali, who flew to England to join Newcastle United – had no intention of sacrificing another big player because of how it would have been received.
The left-back has 29 goals and 39 assists in 213 games for the club across all competitions, and what emerges is that Milan would sell him if a Tonali-level offer of around €80m were put on the table.
Milan will soon speak to his entourage against and while nothing has been decided, no option should be ruled out. In the background it is above all Bayern who are keen, who in the event of Alphonso Davies’ departure would go for Theo, and would have the funds to do so.
of course they want to wait, the dirty bankers need him to have a great Euros before the sale can happen to get the optimum fee.
Cairo can say no, but we who allegedly want to win things can’t say no.
There is never smoke without fire
Smoke without Fire is how news outlets operate nowadays. Your reporting does not have to be truthful, just has to be first in case it is the truth.
There is truth in that…the problem is the Tonali precedent. There may be no truth to it, but the hiring of Fonseca is not what I’d call forward thinking and they don’t seem to be looking to rip up any trees this summer. I don’t trust this management, too many dots beginning to connect
As always,,, time will tell
This is such a ridiculous take. First of Tonali was great business. He’s an overrated player who is a degenerate gambler. They got way more than he was worth and used the money to bring in a bunch of good players. Milan had a very good mercado last summer and I expect them to again. And Theo is 10 times the player that Tonali is so unless he is betting on games too or is personally asking to leave I don’t think they will sell. But keep getting angry over every speculative BS article that comes out.
Besides Pulisic who still has to prove himself in top games, who was a good recruit? Let’s put this into perspective. If Inter would have recruited Reijnders last summer, he would barely play. Same for Chukwueze and Loftus-Cheek. If Inter would have recruited Jovic last summer, he would be at home watching the games. Same for Musah and Okafor. Instead, they signed permanently Acerbi, they recruited Thuram, Pavard and Frattesi. Tonali would be strongly involved in the rotation at Inter as a starter for the Italian team. The fact that he’s a gambler is irrelevant because nobody knew when he was sold.
So who are we competing with? Clearly, not Inter. Maybe Atalanta, Juventus, Napoli or Roma. Atalanta won the Europa League, Juventus won the Coppa Italia and Roma beat us in Europa League. Yeah, good mercato.
Let’s see how well this post ages shall we 😂. Tonali is an excellent midfield player and anyone who says otherwise is clueless. To spout nonsense that he’s no good 24 months after he led our midfield to the Scudetto is preposterous and idiotic.
As for Theo…..let’s wait and see: I’m deeply. suspicious of redturd but they will write their own story won’t they…..
Only Pulisic is what I’d call a real success, he’s the only one who’s come in and been clutch. That’s not to say I don’t rate others, I do, but very good Mercato isn’t right…then again I remember the Mercato of Lentini, Papin, Boban and Savicevic….I’m hard to please
@Drew Tonali had already lost his starting spot at Newcastle before he was banned. Let me know when he becomes a great player.
@ Bart. If your only argument is that Inter has a better squad, yes they do. They also went in debt to do it. I know you are in love with Juve and their amazing owner but We have a more recent Scudetto than Juve and have finished ahead of them in the league each of the last 4 seasons. And would you really rather have had Roma’s season?
Like I said above I watched Newcastle because I actually like Tonali despite thinking that he was way overhyped by the Italian media, but I can also be objective about it. He had already lost his starting spot by the time he was suspended. He also has no chance of starting at Inter, maybe he would see some minutes off the bench but Fratessi would probably take those minutes over him.
Along with Pulisic, RLC was a good signing and scored some important goals. Jovic and Okafor were very productive off the bench which is why they were brought in, to provide quality depth off the bench. Chuku did not have a great season but even he provided important Champions League moments. Musah is a good prospect who is young and needs time to develop. Overall the team is stronger than it was the previous year and I think it will continue to get stronger. But by all means, keep the pessimism coming.
We had a good Mercato?? LOLOLOLO.
Sure chief, sure
> “This is such a ridiculous take”
> continue by saying Tonali is an overrated player and a degenerate gambler
FOH you Squidward
“tired but smiling after returning from a long trip to Australia where Milan played a friendly against Roma in Perth.”
It is this type of liberty made by the author that feeds the fans’ displeasure. Has it been quoted from Theo that he is tired? This type of sentence just serves to fuel the displeasure of fans to rally against the club for arranging the friendly in the hopes of increasing engagement, clicks and engagement time on the site. I was against this friendly but too often the authors on this site take create license to insert a narrative to drive engagement instead of sticking with unbiased reports. Please choose your words more carefully moving forward.
You’re off the mark with your assessment. Firstly, it is mentioned in the source article that he was ‘tired’ after the trip: https://www.calciomercato.com/news/milan-futuro-rimandato-per-theo-hernandez-ce-il-rischio-di-un-to-97949. Secondly, the word tired most likely only refers to the fact he has had a day of travel after a game thousands of miles away, wouldn’t you be tired?
Fair enough Oliver. Then my gripe is with CM and not with you. I retract and apologize for incorrectly attributing it to you.
As for your second point, we have no idea how Theo feels. It is merely an assumption stated as a fact. Perhaps I am just getting sick of what constitutes journalism these days and am showing my age.
Man I’m sure they travel in first class and they can sleep well but there is still the jet lag and I don’t think Théo had any rest since he landed in Milan because he had to take another plane to Paris. After 54 games played since the end of July, I think it’s fair to assume that he’s tired. He might look like a robot as he’s rarely injured and plays 90 minutes most of the time, and hopefully he can continue like this, but he’s still human. Clairefontaine is a quiet place so get some rest Théo and please win that Euro!
I don’t want to sell Theo. But if we do anything bellow 100 it’s a crime.
He’s only worth 60mil.
He’s worth more than the likes Robertson and Grimaldo (the other best LBs rn) since he’s younger. I think anything below 100mis a crime, like TonaliComeBack said. We developed Theo into the best LB around, since 2019. It’s fair to ask for 100m minimum.
Milan is so disappointing, we want to be at the top of Europe but selling our top players.
This whole Theo story is BS. There is zero truth is any of this. In fact, maybe Quillon is drumming up tension pre contract extension. Don’t think Theo wants to go anywhere.
I disagree. I have been working in media and they don’t invent news. To be employed in that field, you need solid relationships and a good network. As you say it might be the agent trying to use a well known leverage in contract negotiations. Calciomercato is no more that shady website, they have solid information and reputation now.
Tough it’s not foolish to think that Théo as an ambitious player could be tired of our current policy and the lack of ambition. I really don’t believe that Théo is ecstatic at the idea of playing for Paulo Fonseca, making effort on his salary and playing for top 4. He’ll not wait a new stadium to potentially be able to compete for major trophies. He’s at his prime right now. Also it’s well known that he came more for Maldini than Milan itself and even if he likes the city and that his wife has a tattoo shop here, millionaires can live very comfortably anywhere. I’m afraid that Mbappé, Tchouaméni and Camavinga could try to convince him to join them at Real Madrid while they’re together at the Euro…
According to a friend who supports Real Madrid, they’re quite happy with what Mendy is doing right now, so maybe there is hope they don’t go for Theo, although Real is quite known for trying to get players even in positions already filled. And I don’t see Theo turning down Real Madrid, they’re more ambitious than us, they’re always favourites to win the UCL and la Liga, they can easily pay him what he want and he was a madridista before being a Milanista.
I don’t know how the media operates, but giving the amount of articles even if they’re clikbait, that Theo is probably leaving, and no article pointing to a possibility of renewal, plus all these quotes from Scaroni, Gerry, the appointment of a coach who didn’t ask for more than 2,5M per year, all these cheap players we’ve linked to,… I do see Theo leaving and Milan heading back to banter era.
I think Zoe wears the pants in that relationship. They will do what Zoe says. Truthfully, I don’t think Milan’s ambition ownership have anything to do with what will do. LOL!!!
Great post buddy. With Maldini gone and Pioli too, Theo may see a natural break happening. Just because he doesn’t want to go, doesn’t mean redturd won’t accept a big and then it’s a different ball game.
The exact same thing we said when the Tonali rumor first came to the surface.
Redbird’s legacy so far in 2024: the stadium that never gets built, bringing Zlatan in and giving him oodles of cash to post on instagram and have a beard, Scaroni, a president about as useful as a porcelain hammer, Theo and Maignan looking closer and closer to leaving sooner than later rather than being part of a long-term project at the club, choosing quite possibly the only coach option available that would make people wonder if it’s really an improvement over Pioli (and possibly the only guy that would do the job for half of what Pioli was making too), we cannot afford any of our most important targets for the transfer market, we still need to sell our Tonalis to afford some Pulisics just like before Redbird, and even though we’re supposed to be in good numbers financially, yet teams drowning in debt can do better and pay higher salaries too, the closest thing we have to a sporting director this far into the process is a scout on a power trip and not even an actual sporting director, we can’t get a single Italian player cause they’re too expensive to re-sell but Musah, all due respect to him, but let’s be honest, he would 1000% not be playing for Milan if he was not American, our record against Inter is so awful our players can’t even look Inter players in the eye without bursting into tears…yeah, the good times.
