CM: Theo’s request is a ‘delicate issue’ for Milan – the details

In recent weeks, reports about the interest in Theo Hernandez have surged, and there have been fears about what the Frenchman’s future may behold. However, this morning, a report has given AC Milan fans some hope.

There have been suggestions in the run-up to the summer mercato that Milan could sell a star to bolster their budget. Perhaps this is a hangover from the events of last summer, but reports have given suggestions about the legitimacy of these claims.

Whether the Rossoneri need to sell or not, interest will, of course, be there for some players, and these interests are to do with contractual situations – the two players with heavy interest are Mike Maignan and Theo, whose contracts expire in the summer of 2026.

Bayern Munich have held interest in both, and reports in the past few weeks have suggested that the defender has had a growing openness to joining the Bavarian club, but there has always been a preference for a Milan stay.

Calciomercato.com have reported that the renewal is a ‘delicate issue’, as the Frenchman would like a €4 million net increase on his contract – from €4m to €8m net per season. However, Milan are not willing to satisfy this at the moment and do not want to go that high currently.

Whilst the club understand the importance that Theo provides, the deal is expensive, even if both parties would like to continue together.

  1. Theo’s a world class left back and one of the best if not the best in his role and deserves a world class salary. If inter can renew barella and lautaro 10 million why can’t we raise the cap a little and renew our actual core players. We’re debt free right??

    1. But then the next guy would like the same raise and so on, and keep on raising the caps on an on again to finally end up with debts, I invite you to have a look at Inter’s financials, they are chaotic and on the verge of collapse

      1. If they are the best at their position like Theo then they would be worth the raise. Milan won’t be able to retain any world class players unless they pay them what they are worth . With this mentality we will end up being a feeder club . Which is probably Redbirds strategy so they can make as much profit

        1. Bayern München won’t pay A.Davies the figures he wants and will sell him to Real Madrid this summer. That makes them a “feeder club” too.

          1. Bayern are offering Davies 14 mln/season, while Milan are not willing to offer 8 mln to Theo. You see the difference.

          2. I see Bayern not paying what the player wants. 1:1 situation. Bayern will sell him. That makes them a feeder club like Milan. 🙂

          3. The only thing that you see is that you are in the wrong and are taking things out of context. 8mil and 14mil is not the same. Davis wants to leave and its not just the sallary. I doubt Real will give him 14mil either, its just an excuse.

          4. “8mil and 14mil is not the same. ”

No but it’s the same principal. Always moving goal posts to suit the agenda, eh?

      2. Yeah but Theo is world class and we have to make an exception. Not many good left backs and the chemistry he has with leao is priceless

      3. Broke team mentality.
If they worth it, they deserve it or let them go to a team that can pay them and you remain with mediocre that you can pay peanuts. As simple as that.

If you’re satisfied working year after year and still earn the same salary, you’re not growing, you’re not developing.
Football is an occupation, these players has the right to demand what the want or let them leave, simple.

We are not in the 90s or early 2000 to 2010 anymore.

      4. I invite you to actually have a look at Inter’s financials. Their debt is decreasing steadily for the past years thanks to commercial and sporting revenues. They are soon to be profitable, probably next year.

        1. They understand that to raise revenue you need to attract attention by winning, and to win you have to pay the good players what they deserve.

          1. Inter is on the verge of the same Yong Hong Li situation we were in. Their owner will have the club repossessed in due time, they are screwed, they have no money.

        2. I don’t think you fully understand Inter’s predicament. Oaktree is about to repossess Inter, and attempt to recoup their money back. Selling is not going to be easy because they are half a billion in debt… No one is lining up to take over a club with that much debt.

So how does Oaktree get their money back? Start offloading most prized possessions. Basic finance 101.

      5. Inter is gambling with debt. But the debt brought them the only Team with 2 stars in their kit next season. I believe most Interista will then buy the kit and Inter is getting profit from sales, and many sponsor will be attracted, not to mention they will play in next season supercoppa for additional cash, then money they got from winning the league. And also their tifosi will be more noisy next season.
Milan scudetto winning team made a miracle with young player and cheap salary. But you can not keep relying on miracle, otherwise you will end up like Leicester.

    2. There’s a reason Inter’s finances are a disaster and Milan’s aren’t.

Theo is the one player I think it’s worth making exceptions for as he’s the only one true world-class player we have, but no player is bigger than the club and if we can’t agree a deal this summer then it’s a tough choice as to whether to keep him or not.

Out of all the players we have, I think he’s the one that might be worth letting go for free and getting two more years from him – he’s the one that can really make the difference between qualifying for a round in Europe or finishing a league place or two higher.

    3. Picking up Inter is the perfect example here! You do know their owner is about to change today as they owners fail(ed) to pay back their 380M€ loan? Their owner is broke. The club is broke. They have loooooooooovely times ahead of them.

  2. This is part of Red Birds exist strategy for Theo..they want Tim sold like Tonali, this way it looks like an unavoidable shame…

    #moneybollocks

  3. We should try to get him to settle for 6M-7M, but we shouldn’t be unwilling to pay him 8M.
This 5M cap is not sustainable if we want to compete for titles, we should be willing to pay our best players more than that.

  5. Theo would be a fool to stay at Milan with 4 mln. Players of his level are making way more money in other clubs. His demand for 8 mln is fair. His bro at PSG is making 19 mln (gross) and he is not as good as Theo.

  6. You guys think Theo, being the best LB in the world, will be happy with 8m when random nobodies in EPL, LaLiga and bundesliga can make more than him? Junior Firpo of leeds united, who is not even a starter makes 60k pounds while theo, the best LB in the world, makes 90k pound lol

    1. “will be happy with 8m when random nobodies in EPL, LaLiga and bundesliga can make more than him”

There is one thing though… You assume Theo only cares about money. When you get older you will (probably) wise up and see that not everything is about money and wealth. Or you don’t. But then don’t just assume that everyone is like you though. 🙂

      1. Not everything is about money. Yeah true, but football is profession, he has family and he did his job very very well. A captain (vice), a scudetto winner, world class left back, and world cup finalist. Maybe when you grow older and have a job, you will understand the needs of appreciation. You will understand how it feels for being an underpaid employee.

        1. “Maybe when you grow older and have a job”

          LOL. You’d be surprised… 😀 😀 😀

I was an underpaid employee 15 years ago. Earning almost 3x the money now and I’m still not valuing money over everything else. Maybe you’ll grow older and realize that even if as a teenager you feel money is everything, it’s actually not. Oh well…

  7. These numbers are pure speculation. Theo is what, like Top3 in the world in his position? That definitely merits Leao-like numbers. So if Leao’s renewal is anything to go by, Theo should be next in line.

But then again, it’s not my money.

  8. Make a deal. 8 million isn’t crazy. He has the leverage. Who are they going to replace him with??? He’s the one player in the squad who could/would start for any team in the world. And I think he showed he has the flexibility to play LB, LCB in a back 3, LCB in a back 2, or LWB, depending on how things develop with the squad going forward. So I say we pay the man. He’ll start for us for at least 5 more years, and still have value in the transfer market after that. He’s that good.

At the same time, if somebody is offering 100 million, you probably just need to say yes and go buy a proven #9.

  9. I would rather sell Leao and give his wage to Theo, than selling Theo.

Move Pulisic to left AM, with the Leao money sign Zirkzee from Bologna, Zaniolo for right AM (loan with option), Ricci from Torino for regista, and Vanderson (new Maicon from Monaco) for rightback. Play a 4321 with both fullbacks providing width and 3 solid midfielders (Reinjders, Ricci, Bennacer/Musah) protecting the centre.

Finally, for defence, sign Buongiorno/ Scalvini/ Calafiori for centreback and Dorgu for Theo’s backup

  10. Like i said, Theo will leave Milan this summer.

He doesn’t have any reason to stay at Milan anymore except money. But the management can’t give his request so there’s no more to do than leave.

    1. In Milan we’d rather have our club exist than feed into fans who have that PSG mentality. Our club nearly went under, and is now financially stable, meanwhile the Snakes are in deep trouble with €500 million in debt. I prefer a club in healthy financial situation for the City of Milano than to have us sitting debt like Inter and Barcelona.
